Again folks, I'm just playing a bit of devil's advocate here.

I am very interested to see what Keefe does with an extra true centre here.

But let's not pretend a package of draft picks is meaningless, regardless of team.

They are.

Then we should trade Knies away for a defenceman or Kane?

He's no good to us either?
Did I say that? Knies is an example of a pick who has developed exceptionally well and can help the team win now. He is ready to play in the NHL and will be a valuable piece for this team either end of this year or next year.

The last 2nd round pick the leafs have had that has played games for the Leafs is Travis Dermott 8 season ago. You realize how silly that is right that people are crying over a 2nd round pick that has done nothing for the team in 8 season?

Who f***ing cares about our first. That player is 5 years away. Home run trade. Well done.

Reading the tea leaves - we still have a ton of options and flexibility to make more deals. The double retention is VERY telling.

You're right.. We'll hate the deal if the Leafs bow out again in round 1 .. probably dislike it if it's round 2 ... etc.

For the failures of the core I'm skeptical that ROR is going to turn them into a Cup running squad, so to me dealing the picks could leave them in a tough spot. If you believe in the team, this clearly fits a big need.

But another playoff failure could mean bigger changes and the Leafs have the assets to recoup some picks at least. So there's that at least.

It's great they didn't deal any of their prospects that could make an impact as earlier as next season. They need the ELC value.

The Leafs gave up a lot of draft capital, but this team is in win now mode! I'm pleased they kept Knies and hopefully he signs after his college season is over. O'Reilly is a great player

I mean we drafted Knies 2 years ago with a 2nd and we're all hoping he's ready to make an impact right now. But I'm with you just playing devils advocate.

I'm not much of a roulette guy myself.

But this is the type of management we seem to always see in Toronto.

Bullish on the quick-fix option, bear on the long-option, oh not that bear...that's the one we did...so that's OK...but now we're back to it not being a great option anymore.....

Come on.

Let's call it for what it is.

A gamble.

I can’t understand how people are still losing their minds over draft picks.

You build a high end roster that can compete and then you start trying to go all in. Thats how it goes. I really do not care about an 18 year old who won’t be an NHL player until Matthews is 30.

All in now. Buy even more. If we lose, we at least went all in.
This. I don’t give a crap about picks. Or Knies either for that matter. Our important drafting was done between 2014-2018 and now all those guys are contributing and it’s time for management to reward them by going all in every single year until the wheels fall off.

You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Empty the cupboards and worry about cleaning it up later when the window closes. A half assed job will get a half assed result.

Thanks Bert.

Let's see both sides of this.

It's not a win until it's shown to be.

For now, we just chipped a chunk of the future away and we're going to see how it works out for us...

We're all scared of another 1st round exit... that's why we hate giving up the picks... but we keep known prospects.

With the guys they got... pretty solid. It's a bit to give but they have to go for it.

These young guys. ... Matthews... Nylander. Marner... go f***ing win it... this is a show of faith again from management... otherwise we all know... big changes.

His 2 goals tonight say differently
What I saw against a playoff team like the Leafs is more telling than what he did against the Senators.

Simmonds, Benn + 1 other guy.

Murray's been moved to LTIR. Simmonds and Holmberg have been sent down. We actually have 4.4 million in cap room right now with a 23 man roster of (just listing players line the players up wherever you wish)

Bunting Matthews Nylander
ROR Tavares Marner
Kerfoot Acciari Jarnkrok
ZAR Kampf Engvall
Anderson

Rielly Brodie
Gio Holl
Sandin Liljegren
Benn Timmins

Samsonov
Woll

That will all be eaten up by Murray when they activate unless he ends up on Robidas Island.
