Yeah I like it more now than I would have yesterday. Took me a minute to swallow the asset cost, but we took nothing from the lineup, not a single prospect of note, and traded [hopefully] a very late 1st. Grabbed a pretty good depth player in Accari too as Dubas tends to do in the same trade as his real acquisition.

Those playoff numbers!! 😍🥰🤩

Again. LET'S f***ING GO SON!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Love Orielly, meat and potatoes kind of player with skill on top. I'm European but we needed to add a good Canadian player with character. He also has Stanley cup winning experience and knows what it takes to win it. He's also got more ability in one arm than all of foligno, so let's stop comparing the two.

They gave up a 1st, 2nd, and a 4th round pick...

How is that a "low percentage mystery box"?

We hear all the time about how "2nd's are the same as 1st's" when Kyle Dubas makes a Mrazek trade right?

He gave up two of those for rentals..

Also heard that same "mystery box" narrative used when Burke traded two 1st's and a 2nd for Phil Kessel, but I digress...the point is it's so cliché and a poor way to describe draft capital.

Better hope it actually works to some degree this time.

He did the same with Foligno and Muzzin and both flopped completely.

Comparing the Burke situation to the one the Leafs are facing in 2023* is laughably absurd. They're not comparable in the slightest. What an absolutely ridiculous thing to suggest....

Do a bit of research for yourself as to the odds of these picks turning into impact NHLers (spoilers: they're low).

So much for not trading the 1st for a rental I guess. That's more than I'm comfortable giving up for a rental who just came back from injury. We're absolutely a better team today, I guess time will tell if it's enough to be worth it
I'm not a fan of trading our 1st, but if the O'Reilly of old that led the Blues to the cup can show up and stay healthy then I think it'll be worth it. If he has injury issues like Foligno then that will suck. Either way at least Dubas only paid up in picks for O'Reilly and Abramov which isn't the biggest price to pay for the kind of player that this team has been lacking.

I'm thinking we get him on a decent contract for a couple years after this one. Correction: I'm hoping

How does affect our 50 contract limit?

2 bodies in
2 out??? Were Gaudette and Abramov both on the 50 contract list?

Still at 49???

Do we really believe O'Rielly is just gonna be a rental? He's most likely gonna sign back here and finish out his career most likely close to home.

A 1st, 2nd, and 4th round pick combined are "low"?

Actually, a 1st round pick 70% of the time nets you a good NHL player.

2017 NHL Entry Draft Picks at hockeydb.com
2016 NHL Entry Draft Picks at hockeydb.com

I believe a 2nd round picks about 50%...

a 4th round about 20%...

You do the math.

You're more likely to get two, not one.

{EDIT}

*****APPOXIMATELY*****

Holy crap relax, I put a chart up later on in the thread that shows close to those numbers

If we need cap at the deadline,, can we still stretch Simmonds? I mean, we're obviously all in.

0% chance this is even close to being true.

It's a hefty price, but those percentages must be way off.

ROR fits an obvious need... he was one of my preferred trade options but there is a Foligno situation risk here. So I take it with a grain of salt. That being said ROR will not have to play the same hard minutes in Toronto.

Dubas did only dealt in picks which helps the team now. Knies, Niemela, Robertson .. all still with the org. And I do wonder if Dubas makes this deal with the intent of re-signing ROR. If they do, there's a bevy of young wingers in the system to come in and help.

I'm not particularly keen on going all in with rentals because I don't know if this core can pull through. I'm skeptical. But if you are a believer in this group (and Dubas' obviously is), this was the move that the team needed.

Let's not sleep on Accari in a depth role either. Brings a lot of elements to the team as well and he was a depth guy I've liked for awhile.

Abramov's development has stalled .. he was a great prospect to move. And it's nice they got a prospect in Pillar back, even if he's a long shot.

Mixed about this one. I'm not fussed on the price paid, this team has desperately needed a high end 3C since Kadri departed that could slot into top 6 in the event Matthews/Tavares went down.

But I cannot ignore ROR's offensive input this season which has been atrocious. Really, really hoping this isn't another Foligno. Acciari is a sneaky good pickup.
