Yeah I like it more now than I would have yesterday. Took me a minute to swallow the asset cost, but we took nothing from the lineup, not a single prospect of note, and traded [hopefully] a very late 1st. Grabbed a pretty good depth player in Accari too as Dubas tends to do in the same trade as his real acquisition.

I don't like giving up picks either but at least we've acquired 2 guys that could make a difference over a long tough series

We kept our young NHL players and Knies which are the assets I was afraid of having to move for help

A 1st, 2nd, and 4th round pick are "low"?

Actually, a 1st round pick 80% of the time nets you a good NHL player.

I believe a 2nd round picks about 55%...

a 4th round about 20%...

You do the math.

You're more likely to get two, not one.
Safe to say your wrong on most accounts here.

the odds of a 1st round pick playing 200 NHL games are good. Mind you that's playing 200 career games, not playing them well. Less.than 25% of 2nd round picks do the same, not 55%. If over half of 2nds round picks became nhlers theyd be worth way more on the trade market....

Mixed about this one. I'm not fussed on the price paid, this team has desperately needed a high end 3C since Kadri departed that could slot into top 6 in the event Matthews/Tavares went down.

But I cannot ignore ROR's offensive input this season which has been atrocious. Really, really hoping this isn't another Foligno. Acciari is a sneaky good pickup.
He’s points haven’t been good at all this year but hopefully it’s because no one on their team has had a good year

I'm thinking we get him on a decent contract for a couple years after this one. Correction: I'm hoping
I don't think its unrealistic to believe that at the end of the season O'Reilly might do a Giordano and re-sign at a reduced price for a few seasons. At least I hope he will the same as you. :) ;) :)

Right now though I just hope he's fully healed up and ready to go.

geez, how many players do we have that can play C now... Just hoping we don't lose one anyways.
we need a follow up trade to shore the defense

Ok so we got hosed on the Mrazek trade.

Good to know.

The 1st round pick is obviously going to be quite valuable like the one's that Dubas probably wishes he still had from the Muzzin, Foligno, and Mrazek trades that got purged away in 1st round losses..

That's not true.

Check 1st round picks within the 24-32 range which is where the Leafs pick will be how many of those players turn into good NHLers. Then check how long they take to become good NHLers.

Leafs are in win now mode. In 2 years Leafs are going to be cap strapped and a mediocre team at best. Who tf cares about a ~25th overall pick that MIGHT turn into a decent player 5 years down the road lol

I can’t understand how people are still losing their minds over draft picks.

You build a high end roster that can compete and then you start trying to go all in. Thats how it goes. I really do not care about an 18 year old who won’t be an NHL player until Matthews is 30.

All in now. Buy even more. If we lose, we at least went all in.

ROR gives the Leafs a bit more versatility in that he could play with Marner or Nylander if they needed to mix the lines up. They can also load manage Tavares more.

We moved down like 12 spots in the Mrazek deal and people continue to act like we outright dealt away a 1st rounder.

Then we should trade Knies away for a defenceman or Kane?

He's no good to us either?

Don’t know anything about Powell.
As long as ROR is healthy, this is not a bad deal.
Anyone does Acciari PK bc if he does, he might be able to lessen the load for MM given Kerfoot is staying.

Just have a feeling Kerfoot is out the door and they bring in Kane.

Are there one too many picks in the deal? Ya probably. Remove one or lower the 2nd to a 3rd or the 3rd to a 4th.

But like in the end, we got very useful assets that fit needs. Not just on paper, but on the ice in many situations. Situations which have plagued this team in the past.

1st round picks really need to be broken down into groupings, like the difference between 1-5 in the first round and 25-32 is astronomical compared to the gap between 33-38 and 58-65. The gap of 6-10 to 25-32 is massive too. Like, if you draft any player 1-5 or even 6-10 and they aren't capable of 200 games you screwed up on a massive level barring some sort of tragic unforeseen circumstance (Luc Bourdon for example).
