I honestly don't think lines 1-4 anyone really competes with us (Boston may be close). Defence still scares me a bit.

Sad Blues fan here. Welp, another beloved piece has been traded away. He was integral in our winning the cup. Now it's your turn Toronto. Hope your guys take full advantage and get yours this season. Good luck, boys. Matt, Tavs and ROR is going to be fun to watch down the middle.

Love the way he plays the game. Detailed-oriented, faceoff aficionado, leadership, all of it.

Hope he gives our guys the extra push they need in the playoffs!

BTW, how are Abrams and Gaudette? Are they reasonable for depth call ups or destined to stay as trade pieces in the minors?

Depends on how you feel about the core of the team
Fair... lol... what don't you like about the core of the team?

More grit I believe forsure or at least killer instinct is needed but I don't know if you can teach it ... I just think of a guy like dougie for instance and wish as much as Marner is amazing he'd add that to his game for example .. so the trades for me add to that killer mentality. I sure hope so.

Thank you! I started as blues fan becomes of Cujo ended up staying with the Leafs. I was cheering when Blues won the cup! Gloria was blaring!

Or how you feel about taking both Tampa and Boston through to the finals with what we have now?

Does ROR/Acciari really move that needle against both?

Maybe one, but both is still dicey and both of those teams haven't made their deadline moves either...

Well we know the talent is there.. do they have the constitution to do it though

ROR/Acciari certainly provide that core with the supporting pieces for success... but ultimately the core has to show up when it counts.

I'm not going to be convinced until they do it.

ROR adds something interesting to the forward group. My first thing to do would be to have him center Nylander on the 2nd line but I don't think they're gonna do Tavares like that right off the hop.

It's that killer mentality .. ROR brings it but after so much playoff disappointment I don't think the core has it.

But that's just me. I don't try to get too down on things because this team is fun in the regular season, but I still see the same issues.

That being said this changes a lot of the dynamic. We haven't seen the team with this quality of centre depth in a few years and we will hopefully see what it can do in a full playoff series.

The net win/loss of this trade will be determined by a) rounds won, and b) ROR re-signing.

This is a high price to pay for a recently injured rental, but if ROR re-signs, it’s no sweat. If he walks, our pick capital is pretty gutted and it’s a Foligno loss.

That being said, this checks every box that i’ve been looking for from the GM, so it’s pretty exciting in the short-term. A needle moving C with top-six impact, who has Selke/Smythe/cup to his name, can play the 3C matchup role, and is the prototype of Canadian playoff warrior.

Between Giordano and ROR, the leadership factor is rich. Huge step-up from Thornton, Marleau, etc. nonchalant jokers/chokers.

Acciari was a target of mine. Very pumped to have him as an add-on here. This is a guy who knows his role and doesn’t just play hard every shift, but will target opposing stars with his physicality. Has to be one of the harder hitting guys pound-for-pound, considering his size on paper.

Reassuring to see that Dubas isn't blind to the fact that this team pre-trade was one of the softest in the league. This helps considerably.

Cool stats wish to source this garbage?

Somewhere between 1 and 2 expected players (combining ELC+RFA contracts {minimum 6 years under the current CBA}) should be produced with that combination of picks.

For the two half-season rentals we just took back,

Since Tyler Bozak won a Stanley Cup in his first season with the Blues, it's only fair that O'Reilly wins his 2nd Stanley Cup this year with the Leafs.

Not exactly the guy I wanted to get - Kaner and Gavrikov were 1-2 but definitely a guy who will help; Selke, Cup and Conn Smythe winner who always shows up in the post season, he’ll help that weak bottom six but can play up.

Acciari isn’t anything to sneeze at either, solid depth piece.

Don’t like trading the 1st but whadda ya gonna do? Who was the last late 1st or later who made an immediate impact? Jesper Bratt, but before him it was ROR.

Dubas asking if he has consent to whip it out, getting a yes and then whipping it out, love it.
