This is what I want to see is getting someone like Leighton who isn't far removed from the game. Someone who has played the modern style and actually played pro. Part of being a goalie coach isn't just working on fundamentals but someone who can talk you through the ups and downs of the NHL grind.

Would be even nicer to get someone with a little more pedigree like a Sean Burke.

According to Friedman, Leafs might go after Michael Leighton or Dan Cloutier

Insignificant move until we know who are starter is next year

If we get a legit starter like Gibson (at a reduced cost because if Phil Kessel in 2015 after 3 straight elite years had a down year as a 60 pt winger, got sold for far lower than he should have, then gibson with 3 straight bad years shouldn't get more than a 1st + Abruzze type prospect + mrazek), Kuempfer, Lehner (again reduced cost) or maybe MAF

Then getting a goalie coach who they want/fits their style is a strong decision

If we get some B-tier goalie like Dreidger, Murray, or run Jack and Mrazek back don't see it helping much

That's because I was being sarcastic, because it's very similar to what posters ARE doing around here. Most of the same ones claiming that this is a scapegoat firing were calling for Briere to be fired when Campbell and Mrazek were stinking up the joint in February...

He owns a successful business and is a multi-millionaire. I think he's fine.

To be fair he did turn Jack Campbell from a throw in , to the starting goalie. I don't think Jack did that all on his own.

The rebuild of Campbell was all done in LA. If anything Briere made him slightly worse again

just watch them sell Mrazek being on the team next year cause they know what we and the league knows. it’s going to cost them significantly for Mrazek to not be on the roster next year and i think they know by now they can’t afford Campbell.

Not me! I’ve been on the ice with the leafs old goalie coach Steve McKichan a few times up in Strathroy and am a fan of his work. But that’s the only coach who has touched the show I have been in contact with.

Nonetheless I’m pretty hyped they are moving on from Briere. They’ve struggled at identifying goalies, developing goalies and also maintaining their goalies.

At this point firing the goalie coach is probably the least of their goalie issues.

The last goalie the Leaf's drafted that's played 100 games for them was Reimer from 2006.

At this point I have to wonder if the issue is more about how the Leaf's assess/scout goalies rather then just the coaching of them.

Somebody on this board did do a write up about their experience working with him before. They spoke of a very toxic environment and how he believes Briere basically ruined what he already new. Said it took 6 months with his old coach to get the bad habits from Briere to get out of his game if I remember correctly.
