??? Babcock’s firing was most definitely about his competence. And his insubordination too.
If it was about competence then what has Keefe done that Babcock didn't accomplish performance wise? First round exits under both. Keefe actually missed the playoffs too in his first year. Under the competence standard Keefe should be fired too. Which tells you all you need to know.

Keefe also has the best winning percentage in franchise history

I wouldn’t say he’s the best coach in the league, but he’s getting results, and nothing about his performance has been fire worthy.
I would think most coaches in his position would have a similar record. It’s meaningless until he shows he can win when it counts.
He absolutely should have been fired, IMO.

Long overdue but does it really help when we keep drafting crappy goalies.

Other goalie coaches can turn crappy goalies into starters.

Briere made goalies progressively worse the more he worked with them.

He also mainly worked with established veterans. Guys who were good long before he got his hands on them.

0.421 winning percentage in the playoffs. His statue on legend's row has been put on hold.

He's gotten results in the regular season

He has made errors and gotten worked in the playoffs

He's 8-11 in the playoffs with 7 of those losses coming in series where his team was thr heavy favorite

He's failed to get the leafs prepared to close out the Habs 3 straight times and vs the Bolts didn't have us ready for game 4 where we could have taken a strangle hold on the series

He has a fetish for Holl whose been involved in numerous bad reads and pinches which have cost the team repeatedly

The special teams generally fall off heavily in the playoffs as compared to the regular season

Offense as the series drags on slows down with little adjustments to our lines

Dubas has had a B/B+ tenure so far

Keefe is a C+ and benefits from a really solid team which Dubas and parts by past management, have built.

There are upgrades available right now and we could use a different voice yet were sticking with Keefe.

Dubas will likely lose his job due to sticking with Keefe

Somebody on this board did do a write up about their experience working with him before. They spoke of a very toxic environment and how he believes Briere basically ruined what he already new. Said it took 6 months with his old coach to get the bad habits from Briere to get out of his game if I remember correctly.

I am not surprised at all! The video of his "business pillars of goaltending" should tell you all you need to know.

Disappointed Leafs held onto him for this long.

I'm not particularly opposed to firing Keefe. I don't think we need to fire him, but if anyone should be able to fire up a bunch of heartless, undisciplined prima donnas, it's the coach.

I think we had a pretty good chat about Briere on here last year.

Yep. That was really informative. And you know JKG33 is the real deal because he said some things NOBODY around here has ever said or known.

Here it is for all the Briere skepticism before he was fired.

If we all continually judge everyone's performance by PO results only, then everyone has to go. It's a short discussion. It's a Harold Ballard mentality. He continually belittled everyone in the organization by a simple "what have you won" metric. I hope we as an organization and fanbase, have advanced beyond Harold Ballard. Can we jettison this Neanderthal mentality already.

No....1967 is the only standard....even Yolanda wanted cups.
Likely Harold, was a problem for execs...but that does not mean the goal is less than a Cup.
I am sick of watching cup finals with Sunbelt teams.
You either have a tradition of winning or you are a sorry loser. What are we? Losers!
Joni Mitchell told us that.
As a Leaf fan we should be embarrassed that since 6 teams played, hockey hotbeds like Tampa, San Jose, LA, win championships. Toronto Maple Leafs, 0 for 55.

I like what we are hearing about the Leafs looking at doing a full in-depth review of the position as well as how they develop goalies. I think we can all agree that the team has a lot of room for improvement in at least the development of goalie prospects over Briere's tenure.

Very interested in the direction they take it from here on out. I fear this my take some experimentation before they get it right.

I hope they go with a more expansive approach and hire several goalie coaches and scouts. Perhaps even a coach/scout that they use to work with prospects and get a second look at goalie prospects the other scouts have identified. Not really a finished idea.

Agreed here.
Keefe is exposed in the playoffs.
Playing Tampa to 7 showed the teams are close skill wise, so the difference is coaching.
I can't recall an I game adjustment in the playoffs that made me think, great move coach
