Post-Game Talk: Leafs Eliminated.

Well, that sucks.
Eliminated after a 3-2 Leafs win in regulation. I guess we needed to hit our yearly quota of obvious goals called off for no reason in a home elimination game.
Leafs battled hard through some pretty obvious injuries and league shenanigans, and really took over and deserved this game.
It's a sad day, but in the end, there are more important things in life, and I had some enjoyable moments in these playoffs that I haven't got to have in a long time.
Next year, the cup. And ideally a complete overhaul of this broken league, but better chance at a cup.
Hopefully ownership realizes that cesspools on the internet are not a realistic representation of Leaf fans, and is able to avoid destroying what's been built.
Lol dekes in denial

Yes, next year the cup.
I have never heard that one before.

Bizarre post. Florida hurt their depth this year to upgrade their forward group with a high priced Tkachuk. Its worked out, after having Pitts miss two layup games, but Florida did the opposite of moving high priced talent for depth this year

Tkachuk @ $9.5 mil

Allow me to ask a dumb question: What good is excelling in the regular season? In a vacuum, what does it really achieve other than seeding (which doesnt matter if you struggle at home)? It didn't do anything for the Bruins this year either.
Good question. Havent done the math. I am close to 50. Been a huge fan since i was 4. How many of those years have the leafs been bottom half or third of the league. No idea. But lots. Maybe a part of me would rather consistently be a top 8 team with a chance each year. Even if it comes with more failure but the hope this year will be different Again. Hope i am wrong. I really do. But if this board gets the changes we are screaming for...i dont see how they arent worse for the next few years.

Having said that. Leaf fans including myself will not tolerate soft teams. I hate watching a team that wont stick up for each other. That starts at the top.

Something was way off with Natthews this season. It’s hard to believe Jack Eichel is better than Matthews at this point in time, but he is.
Maybe Matthews needs to play in the Western Conference.

I called it in the preseason game threads. Matthews after winning the hart and rocket just didn't put in the work in the offseason. His conditioning looked really bad the entire season.

They had a good model to follow from the Raptors. Raps had a great team but just couldn’t get over that hump.

Masaai traded the beloved Demar for kwahi. After telling Denar he want going to trade him. I hat happened? NBA tittle is what happened.

Balls.

This core hasn’t worked and the stubbornness of this management has kept them together.

Dubs also f*cked up the goalie situation very badly.

Anyways this has been discussed ad nauseum.

Just venting my
Morning after frustrations.

It's hilarious that the core is now begging to stay together like they didn't have say in that in the past.

If you really want to stay together sign a 8 mil a year deal for 5 years

You don't get to say you want to be here then try to rob the team blind

its pretty obvious the crookedness of this shit. if they really wanted to stay together they would have signed 8 yr deals at a reasonable cap hit.

they basically want to have the cake and eat it too. I am completely disgusted by them but not more than dubas and keefe. The latter two clowns should have been let go after the habs series

I'll repeat everything should be on the table. The guys that impressed me in these playoffs are not core players. I was just looking things over and I just realized Marner also has a NMC that kicks in this summer (didn't know that). I think they're pretty handcuffed now. The only core player they can move is Nylander and even he has a limited no trade clause. The other guys all completely control their own situation. I'm up for a complete rebuild but it looks impossible under these conditions. It also seems like 70% of the guys I would keep are all UFA this summer. Basically, I wouldn't count on wholesale changes, the team is what it is for a couple of years.
They can move all 3 of them at the draft, management should have some idea where Matthews and Nylander will be as far as what they're looking for. I'm seeing western skies for Matthews, American western skies that is. I'd seriously consider keeping Will if his contract started with a 9. I think MM would fit nicely in Vancouver even though I don't want to trade him, his next contract though may be a team killer.

It's funny that the players demanded that they get paid and that the owners are still looking for profit. So they decide on the salary cap, the problem is that the salary cap doesn't take greed and egos into consideration, the majority of the leagues players are being paid under 2% of the cap 1.7 or less. Call me a socialist if you like but there is something really wrong with that picture.

I do hope Gudas and Bennett get injured in the next round. If anything this round has shown is that we need to become a far far more dirty team. Florida lived by it. Take two early penalties for hitting someone in the head or something in the 1st period, trust your goalie to survive it and know that because you took penalties early the rest of the game is open season because playoffs. We need to get into the mud at this point.

That ain't it, and it can't be. Florida was the most penalized team in the league this season and against Boston in the playoffs but magically turned into the most squeaky clean team against us.

They're more worried about their endorsement loss from getting booted from Toronto (which is why they should have signed for less in the first place) then winning the cup

There's still no accountability

Sign on a massive discount or stop whining about being broken up

Funny how that works

We had 7 power plays in the first two games

What is an acceptable post season interview? I am curious.
I just watched some other teams post series interviews after a bad series loss. Tampa 2019 was a good one.

The players looked angry. They took full accountability. Acknowledgments that THEY themselves weren't good enough. That THEY needed to be better. That THEY don't find their performance acceptable.

The leaf players were still all "We had our chances." and "Puck didn't go our way" type of responses.

I hate these guys. I mean that. I actually hate them.

Sorry, can you explain this? Are you saying Matthews and Marner can be moved on draft day before their clauses kick in? It's so, I'm f***ing cleaning house completely and starting fresh with a bucket full of picks and prospects.

1. if you actually hate them, I think it says more about you
2. What interviews did you watch? Both Marner and Matthews said they didn't capitalize.

The players didn't look happy. You just want to find something to be mad about.
