Post-Game Talk: Leafs Eliminated.

I know it’s crazy to think, but maybe a team that’s only a season removed from being considered a contender is actually a good team despite a bad transitional people after some shakeups to start their season. Maybe they’re legit and Toronto/Boston aren’t complete choke artists. Also, Bob has always been inconsistent with stretches of vezina caliber tending and stretches or fail, so that’s just whatever.

I wanted to win but some folks(not necessarily the individual I’m quoting) seem to think this is unacceptable and are freaking out to the point I worry about their blood pressure.

Matthews worried me but truth is he had a bad season by his standards as well. Hopefully this is just an off year but honestly it might not hurt to entertain moving him for depth to shake things up. Marner can turn most first/second line centers into 40goal scorers anyway.

Yeah we’ll see what they score in the playoffs with Marner though, probably not more than Matthews

People are not worried about a drop in the standings.

The Florida Panthers won the 2021-22 President's trophy with 119 points and then made the big Tkachuk for Huberdeau/Weegar trade and dropped to being a wildcard team in the regular season, but better built for playoff success now in the final 4. They did by going from the #1 seed overall entering the playoffs to the #8th in the East.

The goal is to win the Cup and that is why so many Leaf fans acknowledge the regular season results mean little except to qualify for the show and get invited to participate when it counts.

Leafs fight all year for home ice advantage in the playoffs and then go 1-5 on home ice. So what good did it do?

Leafs really need to try and follow that Panthers example and move one of their $11 mil players and bring in better supporting cast that are playoff warriors.

Lol we’re not getting a return anywhere close to the Lindros deal, he only has two seasons left on his contract then he could leave wherever he’s traded to.
If Arizona wins this arena vote thing they're going to want to make a splash. If the Leafs take money back I imagine they'd be very interested in trading for Matthews before everyone can bid on him in an open market. Realistically he'd waive for Arizona.

Well, that sucks.
Eliminated after a 3-2 Leafs win in regulation. I guess we needed to hit our yearly quota of obvious goals called off for no reason in a home elimination game.
Leafs battled hard through some pretty obvious injuries and league shenanigans, and really took over and deserved this game.
It's a sad day, but in the end, there are more important things in life, and I had some enjoyable moments in these playoffs that I haven't got to have in a long time.
Next year, the cup. And ideally a complete overhaul of this broken league, but better chance at a cup.
Hopefully ownership realizes that cesspools on the internet are not a realistic representation of Leaf fans, and is able to avoid destroying what's been built.

Bizarre post. Florida hurt their depth this year to upgrade their forward group with a high priced Tkachuk. Its worked out, after having Pitts miss two layup games, but Florida did the opposite of moving high priced talent for depth this year

This is fair.

I can just tell you I live in Boston (HATE the Bruins) and these people want to set the entire Bruins organization on fire. They do anger pretty well here and no one cares about the 65 win thing.
Yes well that was just an atrocious letdown, what happened to the Bruins.
As for the Leafs, this core as currently built has kind of shot it’s bolt, and changes have to come now. But it might be a rude awakening if we’re scrabbling for 7th or 8th place in the East.

I disagree I quite enjoyed it lol

I think everyone here understands what major changes might look like.

But how much enjoyment can anyone possibly gain from a successful regular season when the postseason is massively short of expectations every year?

Rome wasn't built in a day.

For years the Leafs struggled to win 4 playoff games in a single season, and this year they won 5 and that only took 7 years to achieve.

You need 16 wins in the playoffs to hoist the Cup so lets do the math at Leafs current pace of progress.
So you're saying we're on pace to win a Cup by 2057, nice

Just watched the post game interviews.

Matthews and Marner looked like they don't care again. Same old nonsense takes "Had a lot of great looks." "Thought we played well." The regular bullshit.

I'm so sick of them. SICK of them.
What kind of interview were you hoping for?

Oh I have no sympathy for Boston, but objectively I can see what a disaster it was.
Regarding enjoyment of the regular season, you’re right and I think a lot of us were already there a year ago.

Where are the boomers who trolled me for using analytics to predict the matthews-marner duo will do nothing against the panthers ? Did they do anything ? We won?

The game has passed most of you by. Enjoy your shit GM if he gets to stay. I won't be watching if Dubas remains.
Bring your spread sheets to 100 Bay and apply for the job before Brad Treliving gets there

Something was way off with Natthews this season. It’s hard to believe Jack Eichel is better than Matthews at this point in time, but he is.
Maybe Matthews needs to play in the Western Conference.
I hate to say it but he's the ideal fit in LA. Will be the successor to Kopitar.

Are you saying that boomers...are fans of Kyle Dubas? You think it's the OLDER generation that loves this guy?

Am i being trolled?

What other 85 point forward is making $10m? There is only one Dubas out there and he won't be allowed to hand out that kind of money in Pittsburgh.
Approximately 12% of the cap is 10 million.

Plenty of players signed 12% of cap as free agents with similar numbers as Nylander.

Kessel and Parise come to mind.
