Where are the boomers who trolled me for using analytics to predict the matthews-marner duo will do nothing against the panthers ? Did they do anything ? We won?

The game has passed most of you by. Enjoy your shit GM if he gets to stay. I won't be watching if Dubas remains.

I think at this point it's needed. This core is great regular season players but disappear a lot in the playoffs.

At this point the Toronto Maple Leafs are the Thornton-Marleau era San Jose Sharks, but there are way worse teams to be in a 32 team league.

The other factor to consider is what happens around Toronto in the Atlantic Division. You can be good or bad, but it's relative to the strength of the league and your division.

That goal was in! During the game they kept showing it going in after the goalie had freezed it for a long time and I was like "yeah that's probably the right call." But the original shot went in! The original shot! Morgan got ripped off. By the way, start an online petition Leafs nation to make Captain Morgan a reality.
Whether it was in or not, what a play by Morgan Rielly. Boggles the mind how the emotion he played with last night did not rub off on most of the rest of the team.

I Know everyone wants to blow it up…but I can’t visualize a single trade that is going to make the leafs better over the next few years. Outside of moving the impossible Tavares contract major changes are coming but so is a major drop in the standings. See what the next chapter brings. Bring on more pain.
Than you are overvaluing Matthews and Marner. Playoff ghosts

The goal is to win the cup not make the playoffs each year. Yay they won a round this season. The big 4 disappeared way too often in the 2nd round.

But they aren't even close to that. From the 2004 playoffs through to the 2013 playoffs (10 playoff seasons), San Jose won 8 playoff series. This team has won 1 playoff series in 7.

I was hoping playoff hockey would be fun to watch but it’s too frustrating to see refs throw out the rule book and default to “it’s playoff hockey rules “

No other sport changes their rules so drastically in playoffs.

That being said ….you need your 11 mil dollar players to be the elite players. And we’re any of them the best players on the ice ?

One thing I noticed was our team speed went from one of the best in the league to one of the worst.

Taveres and OReilly have Allison type speed now and that’s a terrible recipe in a young man’s game.

The biggest disappointment for me was Mathew’s and Marner …we have to score more then 2 goals a game.

I thought Lilly played great but it was sad seeing Brodie and others back there with no threat on offence as they can’t shoot worth a crap from the point.

I’m not sure….love the core and I thought Willy had another very good playoffs but again the mediots will use him as a scapegoat.

Not sure which contract we can trade. One of the 11 mils contracts have to go IMHO

I wouldn’t resign OReilly unless it’s a team friendly deal.

When did Kyle Dubas transition to the Boomers Choice getting scooped on analytics by more knowledgeable fans? That's quite the plot twist you are presenting here.

The difference is though, Thornton era actually made it to the finals
They also won a lot of rounds

Nobody will ever question Joe T playoff performance. That dude showed up
Except for when he was 40 and played for the Leafs

Only comparable I can think of is the 2000-2004 Ottawa Senators. They always did well in regular season, only for Yashin to disapear, only for their goalies to break down

It really is amazing how it isn’t contagious through the core.
We bring in guys like Spezza/O’Reilly and it makes no difference. The Prince and the Duke run the show at their own pace.

Well, you have to factor in age as well. Joe Thornton was traded to San Jose in 2005 at the age of 26 and teamed up with Marleau, who was also 26. Matthews and Marner are at that age now and could conceivably plateau at this second round for the next 10 years with one random run when they're old and out of prime.

It was NOT a goal, the rule is clear, if you do not see the puck cross the line then you can’t call it, it’s impossible to make a good goal call. Biz is gas lighting a vulnerable fan base. Remember Points goal in game 3 rd 1, those calls usually even out. That angle doesn’t clearly show the puck in, if Panthers had that play called a goal we would be losing our minds.
The gudas play was a veteran play, there was missed calls both ways, only calls made would have been clear cut penalties, it sucks but they shouldn’t have put themselves in a 3-0 hole. The breaks we got in the Tampa series weren’t going to continue, and this team didn’t take advantage, out of the 11 games they played well enough to win maybe 3 or 4, not enough to win 2 playoff series, 1-5 at home, Marner Mathews tavares nylander 3 goals in rd 2??? Cmon
Im not sure how anyone can watch that replay and "not see the puck cross the line"... like what the hell? ITS RIGHT there.

It crossed the line. Before play was dead. Replay shows it. There was no whistle. Nothing to argue. Bad call. Such is life

Please show me video of the puck crossing the red line, this is not an assumption call, this is a literal call, puck has to completely cross the red line. Show me that and I will agree with you. If Florida had scored that goal and called it I would feel we were screwed. Rule is clear, ref called no goal on the ice, there must be conclusive evidence to prove otherwise.

Say what you will. I am just saying the Leafs are likely losing any trade involving either of them. If fans are ready to step back I would consider a Mathews to Anaheim for the 2nd overall. As a base. Fantilli will be a number 1 center. Ducks have a lot of good young players and aren’t far off from competing. Gotta figure Mathews would enjoy Cali.

I have a bad feeling we are going to see the same core back here next year. Probably have a new GM and coach, but that’s probably it.

It is clear as day. How can you NOT see it cross the line?

People are not worried about a drop in the standings.

Trade Matthews if he won't resign at a reasonable price. He's not worth 14-15 million. Not for what we saw tonight. Need to get back a high potential defenseman. Woll looked really solid tonight. Build around that.
What was seen tonight is a player of Freddie Gauthiers worth, maybe a better skater but had the O chops of Freddie so 1.25m

Writing was on the wall with this team of "superstars " during the season. It was clear evidence it wasn't a contender. Our losing record against the the lower tier teams was embarrassingly bad. What other team does that??? You never got a sense they were going to dominate any of those teams that should have be dominated. In fact the opposite occurred. We were dominated by the door mat teams.

At the start of this season I feared the possibility of losing Matthews. At the end of this season if he doesn't want to sign a decent deal then I hope I don't see him ever again.

What a pathetic showing from someone that won the Hart last year. Is this dudes wrists just completely chalked? Good luck to anyone that gives him a ridiculous deal, he's not worth it.
