Run it back with a new coach and 1 of the core 4 traded. If Matthews refuses to to sign, trade him too. Leafs were the better team this series, but you can’t score 2 goals in 7 straight games eating that kind of cap space.

We were terrible against Tampa and better than Florida in 4 out of 5 games. We won the series we should have lost and lost the one we should have won.
That's probably the worst part, knowing how garbage and undeserving Florida was. I guess that is how Tampa felt but at least they had recent cups to cry into.

Good news is at least changes are coming. The way the contracts are lined up it's hard to run it back.

Keep Rielly and Nylander

Trade Matthews and Marner.

Enough is enough.
Narratives rooted in prejudices are funny and stupid. The supposed sissy, soft, selfish swede william nylander is a much better playoff performer and gamer than the ontario-born and raised, good old canadian boy mitch marner. I'm not saying that nylander is the ultimate playoff warrior. But at least he steps into battle and he rises to the occasion sometimes. He was visible and made things happen here and here, he was opportunistic- while purebred canadian boy Marner was invisible, he wouldnt do anything or couldnt do anything.

We need more forwards with nylander's speed next year. And also More size, more passion, and more skilled grit with attitude. And give the captaincy to morgan rielly, the true leader of the leafs and the best playoff gamer on this team. Tavares is a good player, a nice guy and a hard worker but I believe the captain's role is not fit for him.

Lets give matthews one last opportunity and surround him better. Trade marner for a very good return. Trade tavares just like we traded phaneuf a while ago.

I remember it very well, but the fact is they made the playoffs for the entire sequence of years that would be considered the mid-90s.
Yeah, but it was the Norris division pre-conference setup. You got in if you beat one team. And they then lost back-to-back series to a 36 year old Grant Fuhr.

Anyways if this team is serious about wanting to win, a good first step would be firing Keefe and taking the C off JT's sweater in the locker room post game to pin it on Mo's sweater in front of everyone. Also one of JT or Marner needs to go.
JT is straight up not a tradeable contract. It is best people accept that.

It’s amazing that the window of this absolutely elite core is about to finish with only a disappointing second round to show for it.
I think Dubas was not the guy to put in charge with such an elite crew. He’s learned on the job and through pain and failure is now probably a good gm but it’s too late.

I actually don't think Dubas was a bad call, he's done some good supporting things. His flaw is, and always has been, sticking by his core that produces good analytics results. But when the chips are down in the playoffs and analytics are less relevant, they just can't get it done.

He deserves to be fired on that merit.

Florida traded Huberdeau after a President's trophy win and a second round epic disappointment .. the Leafs clung to their core after they let a shitty Montreal all team come back from a 3-1 series deficit and win a series.

He made a lot of moves to support that core .. and they failed.

Well f***. Honestly though I thought the team played a great game, were the better team by a wide margin, just didn’t get the bounces (or the calls). And for the series as a whole, really every game could have gone either way, all down to the wire.

This is the first playoffs with this group where I thought we played very well. Tampa and Florida are both strong teams, both series were super even. We got the bounces vs. Tampa, didn’t get them vs. Florida. I was on team “blow it up” after the Columbus and Montreal series, but honestly this year we played well IMO.

I’d fire Keefe, and make some changes to the roster, but certainly wouldn’t blow it up.
That’s the game I watched tonight, too.

They need a little more skilled toughness up front and some D.
Looks like they got a goalie tandem.

I wouldn’t bring Bunting back, his antics have run there course and I thought he was out of his league in this series.

I wish this team had Jon Cooper and a feeble gm to do his bidding. Seems like so much potential lost that could have been lethal in the right hands.

Yeah with under ten minutes to play down a goal in an elimination game in the offensive zone he refused to take a hit to make a play.
Down 2-0 I saw him take a run and finish a hit. I saw him go into a scrum after a whistle late in the game too.... tell me you know that your nmc hasn't kicked in without telling me (or however that line goes)
