There is no need to rebuild a la Chicago or Montreal. A retool by a fresh GM with a fresh coach can do a lot. There is a lot of assets on this team, all of Marner Matthews or Nylander would fetch a King's ransom. Re-sign O'Reilly and Acciari. Re-sign Schenn. Dump Holl. Play Knies a lot.

I actually don't think Dubas was a bad call, he's done some good supporting things. His flaw is, and always has been, sticking by his core that produces good analytics results. But when the chips are down in the playoffs and analytics are less relevant, they just can't get it done.

He deserves to be fired on that merit.

Florida traded Huberdeau after a President's trophy win and a second round epic disappointment .. the Leafs clung to their core after they let a shitty Montreal all team come back from a 3-1 series deficit and win a series.

He made a lot of moves to support that core .. and they failed.

f*** it’s true but if Tavares hadn’t been hurt and Muzzin didn’t miss the last game we probably win that series; it was the best Leafs team with this core imo. That’s a tough position for Dubas to be in. He did okay but really was the players best friend and inexperienced when he came in. It was a poor promotion and too early.

For the first time in several years I had belief in this team after they beat the back to back to back EC champions.

They immediately follow that up by losing in 5 games to a team who was SWEPT by them last year.

This team just doesn't have it, on paper this should've been heavy advantage Leafs, but when Nick Cousins is outscoring your 13 million dollar 60 goal man and Marner is out there doing pirouettes its tough to win.

The only two players I want back are Rielly and Nylander, I truly don't care about any of the rest.

You're ignoring that we've gone down this path in the past, and when it comes to the Leafs "retooling", it leads to a decade of no playoffs.

We've never been in this situation before where we have this many marketable assets.

It's not the least bit unfathomable that the team could be better and go further in the playoffs next year without any of these 11 million forwards.

We had 6 players including a defenseman score more than their top scorer, 11, 9, 8, 7, 7, 7 vs. 6, 6, 5, 5, 5, 4. Samsonov didn't have close to an otherwordly save percentage like Bobrovsky in this series either.

He was a PPG player. He'll be paid $8M per year for his next 2 seasons. There are lots of team capable of handling that especially with a little bit of retention.

The no movement clause is why he may be untradeable.

I agree the right GM could turn this around. We have good pieces imo but we need to mix up our core.
