Okay so, I am going to just pre-emptive strike this argument
"This is why we can't have nice things, we have X player, and X player is super good and X player will be traded and win a cup, and Toronto won''t, see "Kessel, Bozak, Kadri, etc."

Just stop. once again. Kessel's issues here was never about his playoff ability, Bozak was great (just too high i the line up) and Kadri while a dumbo 2 years in a row was the same situation

You can not have 40 million locked up in the forward core, and the forward core doesn't produce come playoff time. I am hardcore looking at Marner and Matthews because they are the ones who wanted the BIG money and held out and they are almost always the ghosts out there.

as I said before - this team really has no more credit with me. I've watched zero minutes of the regular season because the regular season isn't important. we know that they can do well enough to make it to the playoffs. they very obviously have no idea or the ability to perform in the playoffs. You can not win 1 game out of 5 at home. Period. You can not have your franchise centreman score zero goals - esp once you are down 3-0 in the series.

I would simply just... figure out how to remove the most tradeable people on the roster, draft, and try again. I don't know how these people shoot their mouth off "we don't care what you say, we know what w'r capable of." and you keep doing the same damned things.

people will always blame the coach (and I am not defending him). but at this point seven years in - with a MAJOR amount of wheeling and dealing from managment to get really good supportive players. the fingers should be pointed at the Core, and ways should be figured out how to improve from them. end of story.

Does anyone still think that these guys are contenders
Well, for the first time since Washington I feel like their headed in the right direction.
I like Woll
I loved Nylanders compete.
Mo was great.

Dubas‘ wasted several years

It’s amazing that the window of this absolutely elite core is about to finish with only a disappointing second round to show for it.
I think Dubas was not the guy to put in charge with such an elite crew. He’s learned on the job and through pain and failure is now probably a good gm but it’s too late.

What the hell mid 90s are you referring to? The 1890s???
I'm guessing you don't remember '95-'97, when Fletcher decided to "retool" the '93-'94 teams by trading a bunch of developing and young assets for proven veterans to "build a team that could win in the playoffs"... Only to have back to back first round losses followed by missing the playoffs and having to lose most of those assets for nothing due to retirement or free agency.

On the positive side, they move one step closer to their final goal.

The guys played well in the TB series and had moments in the Panther series. Just need to be better and work harder.

Most importantly, need a new coach.

ror better have been badly injured because that’s the only justifiable excuse for why he was so lacklustre and couldn’t even throw a hit. He’s supposed to be a leader. Hope for him a speedy recovery if he was but no excuse otherwise. Don’t re sign him.

Re sign Schenn, Rielly, Nylander.

Get rid of Tavares he sucks, and trade Holl to Boston. Better to play against him than with him.

If one of the big 3 have to go it has to be Matthews or Marner. I would keep Matthews.

Keefe made a huge blunder to not put Nylander on the first powerplay. Huge huge huge. Why keep trying something that is failing? What was he thinking? What does oreilly bring there nylander doesnt??!!

At least the Leafs looked like they gave some effort the past 2 games. Florida won tonight, but the Leafs were the better team. The 1st 3 games the Leafs just mailed it in.

Er.. games 1 and 2 the Leafs dominated the third for a goal and still couldn't pull through.

They just don't have it.

The key is hating to lose more than liking winning.. and the Leafs don't have it.

Auston hey buddy wanna show you something

Oh yeah Ok what a ya got?

Well these are the plans for new arena we're breaking ground on, right here is the luxury box for the Matthews family for life, it comes along with an 8 year 134m contract and a "C". Sound good?

Cool

So thats great so there's just a matter of the league approval and we're gold. Welcome home Auston

You think this team is the only team to make the playoffs? There are 15 other teams each and every single season that make the playoffs that don't have Matthews, Marner or Tavares on them. None of them have Dubas as their GM either. And none have Keefe as their coach.

Unbelievably, one of those teams also win the Cup, without having said players, GM or coach.

It can be done.
So succinctly stated. Bears repeating.

It doesn't get any more invisible than Marner. I watched all third and think I heard his name three times, each time for turning the puck over lol.
Yeah with under ten minutes to play down a goal in an elimination game in the offensive zone he refused to take a hit to make a play.

Well f***. Honestly though I thought the team played a great game, were the better team by a wide margin, just didn’t get the bounces (or the calls). And for the series as a whole, really every game could have gone either way, all down to the wire.

This is the first playoffs with this group where I thought we played very well. Tampa and Florida are both strong teams, both series were super even. We got the bounces vs. Tampa, didn’t get them vs. Florida. I was on team “blow it up” after the Columbus and Montreal series, but honestly this year we played well IMO.

We were terrible against Tampa and better than Florida in 4 out of 5 games. We won the series we should have lost and lost the one we should have won.
