Series wins, Schmeries wins, amirite?
It's just a new thing. Nobody wanted to win playoff series before. LOL. :eek3:

Already said it, nothing particularly wrong with picking up Malgin, but its just playing around the edges of the roster again & not important.

He did the same press conference as any GM has....I take it you're going by Brian Hayes' whining. How many interviews must he give?
Dubas hasn't accomplished enough to warrant such a defensive fanbase

The prospects are not there yet entering year 5,

The NHL team can't get it done in the playoffs

He's not been terrible but he's also not some elite wonder GM

A average GM so far whose getting a long leash and running out of time. Need progression this year

Oh please. He gets knocked for the comment then when I point out some truth to it you say it doesn't matter. He was specifically asked about Trotz when he made that statement.

How many people freaking out about Keefe not winning a round are aware it took Trotz 12 years?
What team did Trotz coach during his first 12 years?

Who was the best player on that team? The best forward?

Keefe/Dubas had a strong g forward core and depth to work with.

It's been dwindling slowly with brown/kpa/aj/moore/hyman all going out

We need some fresh prospects to replace those guys.

Knies/Robertson/Holmberg have to pan out and become quality top 9 forwards to make up for the lost depth due to installation overpay to the big 4 (which 3 are now earning but the 4th, 91 is around 3M overpaid

It isn't about best player though. Where's McDavid?

Leafs need to give their prospects a chance, along with greybeards.

Enough talent to have very good regular seasons. IT's a team game and they were good,

The preds were an expansion team

They were garbage for 5 of the 12 year time frame you provided

.384, .427, .488, .421, .451 was their point % from 99-2003

The next 6 years (2004, 06-10)

They were a quality playoff team 3 out of 5 times they made it with .646, .671, .610

The other two times they made it as a lowly 8th seed with .555 each time.

The Preds during that period (99-04, 06-10) were never a powerhouse team with heavy payroll and top stars

They were a budget team, which had expanded and had to rely on defensive systems to claw their way to the playoffs

Mcdavids on his way to replacing one of the big 4

He needs 1 cup before he's recognized as the GOAT of this generation and top 5 all time

He just put up a historical 33 pts in 16 games. Got the Oilers to the WCF

Not perfectly there yet, and his trams flawed, but having legendary playoff runs like that will make his legacy very high once its all said and done

He's a once in a life time level talent, if things don't work with the Oilers, at 29 he's still generational and can go chase a cup

If things do work for the Oilers, 97 might be replacing 99

A thread on Malgin returning (and worth) post multi year contract signing for Mason Marchment screams all kinds of collective masochism and neuroses.

Anyway Op can change the thread title to something like:

Our Happy Place: A thread where we talk about the usual stuff repeated in other threads when the trauma of certain trades is too much to bear…

…or something like that.

You come off aggressively pro Leaf but also belittle our team by thinking it's similar to the ones Trotz had to work with for majority of those 12 years before he won. Weren't preds straight trash for the first 6 or 7 years ?

Odd.

Leafs should have a cup by now. The hate is justified. Keefe took his licks as to why a while ago use the search feature to catch up you're late to the party.

Marner and matthews just turned 25. Mackinnon was older when he won his cup, same with Stamkos. Ovie was 32.

Dollars to doughnuts if Trotz and Preds had been gifted just two of Matthews, Marner and Nylander, I bet they would have won multiple Cups under Trotz. It was a mostly tight ship that was always scrambling for elite scoring.

Thanks for these facts. Not sure how it's relevant to the overall point you were trying to make about Trotz career path. It's news to me Keefe was thrown into a rebuilding team gradually progressing season to season. I could have sworn we were cup winning favorites for every year Keefe has been here.

You are one of the few Leaf fans that has pencilled him into the Leafs roster.

So what does your Leafs 4th line look like with Malgin a member of it?

This roster building is kind of top down.

It has to start with, does Robertson play on the second line, with the Leafs or Marlies.

It’s hard to predict who will be on the opening lineup on day one, let alone how differently that might look a month later. Malgin is a guy you can’t discount against.

What we can comfortably say is that Matthews, Marner, Bunting, Nylander and Tavares will be in the top six. Kampf and Jarnkrok will be in the bottom six. The rest of the spots will be earned in camp and preseason and Malgin has a shot at one of those.

I wouldn't say I'm penciling him in. But he's probably got a reasonable shot at being competitive for a spot. The 4th line could be Malgin, Aam Gaudette and a Marlies graduate like Anderson or Steeves

He most likely gets first dibs at 2LW. At 25 years old now, I am intrigued to see if Malgin can make some noise beside an in-shape JT and Nylander.

He could also be used higher in the lineup if he can demonstrate some chemistry with those guys

Hfboards Leaf Fan Emergency Meeting About Denis Malgin:

What do you think?

What's the next step?

Does he continue on the 2nd line with Nylander/Tavares?

I think only one player on the team has scored more goals than he has thus far.
I’m not sold on his future at all but there seem to be some people unwilling to give him any chance.

Does someone like Robertson get a chance there?
Maybe. If they are going to call him up they better play him but hopefully people aren’t ready to move on from him after 3 games too

To be fair, a Swiss League player could have finished that easy tap in goal.

Dont get the Malgin hate lately. Hes keeping up and contibuting to our best line. He doesnt drive the play, but he does keep plays moving and gets to good spots offensively
