We just saw a historical leafs game. Years later we are going to tell our grandkids about the times big players came up big in important games. This generation, we never really had one of those yet. I mean yeah, before this year, the Matthews core had won 13 playoff games, and you can't do that unless you've done some things well and some things right. But there was nothing so dramatic, so gutsy, so heavily dependent on our stars making a clutch play at just the right time. Probably the most dramatic, memorable (positive) playoff moment the Matthews core had given us was the brilliant overtime pass from Boyle to Kapanen*.
Gilmour gave us so many memories. Clark did. Sundin did. f***ing Stumpy Steve Thomas did! Now, finally, Matthews and Marner did.
*and you'll say, hey, what about the comeback vs. Columbus? But all they really did was make up for snoozing through 56 minutes so I don't really count that.
