Leafs at the Olympics

Ya it would be great if they canceled it.
The leafs are finally playing like a team and playing up to their abilities and all we would need is Matthews ,Marner or Reilly to get hurt for basically nothing

I would love to stick to facts. Not only is your claim not true, but even if it were, that still wouldn't add up to anywhere close to 300 players. And while straight line speed is a valuable asset, it is not anywhere remotely close to as important as you're making it out to be. Marner is one of the best players in the world, and one of the best skaters in the world, and is a lock.

No we want to WIN GOLD for Canada first and foremost .. only 5 tool guys make Team Canada .. even guys who have brilliant tools but are limited in them can't make it .. if you can't fly and you can't shoot you are a liability to team bottom line

I don't know if this is .......I mean, is Marner the only player under consideration who has ever made an ill advised play in their life?

I remember the last time they tried this heavier and role specific route in 2006. They finished 7th.

You need more skill and smarts to win.

Why must you continue to make these ridiculous accusations?

Just because someone may not think a Leaf player will make their country's Olympic team doesn't mean they are "openly rooting against" them. They just have a different opinion about them.

Nothing wrong with voicing your opinion.

Expect some backlash if you insult other people for having different opinions while having piss poor arguments in favor of your own positions.

Marner is one of the best wingers in hockey and the closest the Leafs have had to a slam dunk to play for Canada in forever. If you are going to come on this board and try to shoot down his chances, you better have a pretty good argument and certainly, try not to insult the other fans here. In going after Marner's skating, what can even be said? Marner will be one of the better skaters on team Canada. It's such a stupid position he has to be a troll/rooting against the team.

I want the Leafs to go to the Olympics and play those pressure situations with other big superstar players. Build up that comfortability and win something away from the Leafs and bring back those experiences for the playoffs. WJC's for adults basically. But on the other hand, the travel, uncertainty, safety and season long fatigue would be possible downsides.

The 06 Olympics were scuffed for everyone. 5 of the top 7 scores for that tournament are Finnish. Like yes the Canadian was not ideal, but they were better than they finished. The entire team severely underperformed.
 
I really can’t see how Marner doesn’t make it no good arguments yet, he’s truly elite.
