How could this possibly work with Avs little to no cap space and the fact that Necas needs a big contract in a year, Blackwood extension kicks in as well, and Makar is gonna get like $15m in two years time?
That's on them to figure it out. But with the cap jumping about 8 Million a year for the next 3 season, moving a guy like Samuel Girard and throwing some differed money in there, it's definitely doable.

Sure... anything is possible but my point is that the Avs and Rantanen are likely further apart than they've ever been in the ability to reach a deal that works for both sides.

Where do they rank since the trade though?
Terrible I'm sure but that's not the point. Canes have been a top 10 offensive team all season. People shouldn't be coming with lazy and incorrect takes of 'Canes can't score so that's why Mikko wants to leave' when the Canes clearly can score.

Here is their rank over the last 5 seasons.

2025 - 9th
2024 - 7th
2023 - 15th
2022 - 9th
2021 - 10th

Now it might not be ultra elite and Colorado has typically scored more but it still averages out to a top 10 placement each season over the last 5. That's not a team that 'CAN'T SCORE GOALS'.

Now if were are talking currently... yes Canes can't score or really do much of anything well.

You are free to want to add rantanen as a leafs fan - I’m just not sure that really addresses the issues on the team that have been holding it back in the playoffs.
Even though they have good offensive players, scoring was the issue in the playoffs last year. They were in many low scoring games and this season the PP hasn't been good. Rantanen at a lower price would be a great addition and let's see what happens in the offseason with Rantanen and Marner. Might be a good back up plan if Mitch didn't return...

I agree with you.

My point was just that I'd rather see Rantanen in Colorado than anywhere else. There are some duos that should not be broken.

If Colorado gets Necas, Drury and a couple picks for free in the process, I won't be mad about it.

I think it should be noted that I might be biased, I'm a Habs fan but I love Colorado too.

Sure I mean I wouldn’t rule anything out but in order for Colorado to sign him, Rantanen is going to have to make some major concessions on his contract asks and/or Colorado is going to have to figure out a way to clear a tremendous amount of cap space.

Of course it’s possible but it doesn’t seem like a very likely option at the moment

Idk if we even have the right pieces to make it work….

I’d imagine
Mctavish
Gibson
1 of Mintyukov/zellweger/luneau

And even that idk get it’s it done…. Not really much room to improve outside of swapping carlsson in for mctavish(but I imagine that’s a no from us)

From an Anaheim perspective and I’m probably in the minority but Rantanen with an extension or at the very least the belief to get one done - I would offer

McTavish
Mintyukov
Prospect
1st (top 8 or so protected)

Ya - these ANA offers would definitely be of interest if Carolina and Rantanen aren't seeing eye to eye before the deadline.

What we would have to offer, will hurt…. Mctavish is prob a solid starting point.
1 of the young dmen (zell, minty, luneau), a good 2nd piece… then I could see debate on Gibson(we take back a goalie) or our 1st…. And then maybe a B piece or 2

Well, I would say that having an "over enthusiastic" owner to put it nicely, is not something that agents, other GMs, or maybe even the team's own GM and coach appreciate all that much when usually the chain of command is somewhat clear with how these things are run.

It's not just about the agents thinking Dundon is cheap and they can't get their clients paid. Having an owner, a member of the board or someone like that meddling in the day-to-day operations of a business rarely leads to anything good. And I'm not talking just about sports here, can talk about my own experience in my own company as well.

Again though, the survey has to be taken in context that it’s specifically the opinion of agents.

It’s like surveying used car salesmen to discover that the absolute worst person who is WAY too involved in your decision making is that bitch wife of yours. Come on, man. Just sign the paper.
