How could this possibly work with Avs little to no cap space and the fact that Necas needs a big contract in a year, Blackwood extension kicks in as well, and Makar is gonna get like $15m in two years time?
That's on them to figure it out. But with the cap jumping about 8 Million a year for the next 3 season, moving a guy like Samuel Girard and throwing some differed money in there, it's definitely doable.

Sure... anything is possible but my point is that the Avs and Rantanen are likely further apart than they've ever been in the ability to reach a deal that works for both sides.

Where do they rank since the trade though?
Terrible I'm sure but that's not the point. Canes have been a top 10 offensive team all season. People shouldn't be coming with lazy and incorrect takes of 'Canes can't score so that's why Mikko wants to leave' when the Canes clearly can score.

Here is their rank over the last 5 seasons.

2025 - 9th
2024 - 7th
2023 - 15th
2022 - 9th
2021 - 10th

Now it might not be ultra elite and Colorado has typically scored more but it still averages out to a top 10 placement each season over the last 5. That's not a team that 'CAN'T SCORE GOALS'.

Now if were are talking currently... yes Canes can't score or really do much of anything well.

You are free to want to add rantanen as a leafs fan - I’m just not sure that really addresses the issues on the team that have been holding it back in the playoffs.
Even though they have good offensive players, scoring was the issue in the playoffs last year. They were in many low scoring games and this season the PP hasn't been good. Rantanen at a lower price would be a great addition and let's see what happens in the offseason with Rantanen and Marner. Might be a good back up plan if Mitch didn't return...
