Beautiful avatar, one of my favourite NHL stories ever.At least toronto is icing some decent defenseman, should be a better test than what Ottawa put out there on the backend.

What do you expect him to say? Gallagher, and his bloated contract, is an albatross around this team’s re- building efforts.TLDR: Marty is not concerned with Gallys performances.
As mentioned before, Hughes does not see the contention window in the next 2 years (Petry and allen deals) so they will overplay Gally until he realizes he is cooked and goes on LTIRWhich is a problem because Gally's cardio can't even sustain a 30 seconds shift now...
Just my opinion, but as a coach in a training camp, you would want the struggling guys in uncomfortable situations. You are not there to help with confidence right now. There is another time for that. You are there to see if they can get out of the shits by themselves.I don't get the decision to put Barron with Norlinder. Both are shaky in their own end, Barron clearly has some confidence issues so why not,
Guhle Barron
Norlinder Reinbacher

To me, this means they are not sure they believe Barron has it in him. They are testing him.
Not sure he’ll be part of the starting lineup if Matheson is healthy to start. Again, he’s slow out of the gate.
They're both at about the same level at this point. Could it be Mailloux, Barron and Norlinder are all in Laval this year? Mailloux is on the bubble for me, but I doubt they rush him. Probably keep Lindstrom as a 7. Mailloux is 20. Barron is 21. Norlinder is 23 now tho... it's put up or shut up time. Fans seem to be getting a bit impatient, but this is gonna take a few years folks. It's a test of maturity.
Does Barron answer by going full home run/miss or does he do what the team needs him to do which is to babysit Norlinder tonight.
There is no question its a bit of a waiting game. Management knows the current iteration of the team is not going anywhere this year or next. The problem is that a segment of the fan base has other misplaced expectations. As mentioned before, Hughes does not see the contention window in the next 2 years (Petry and allen deals) so they will overplay Gally until he realizes he is cooked and goes on LTIR
Its sad to see this proud warrior struggle to compete. Gallagher is a mere shadow of the player he was.Which is a problem because Gally's cardio can't even sustain a 30 seconds shift now...
I believe @DAChampion alluded to this particular phenomena recently where he posited that a portion of our fan base is mentally ill. There is no question its a bit of a waiting game. I was going to post the very same question.Yeah but … what if he wants to see it while someone else is present in the room?
he's played one gameIts sad to see this proud warrior struggle to compete. Gallagher is a mere shadow of the player he was.
One can find this particular affliction among the fans of teams in all professional sports. For Toronto fans, after every winning streak, rabid, but long suffering leafs’ fans, are joyously planning the Stanley Cup parade down Yonge Street. It never changes. Isn’t that the definition of madness?I believe @DAChampion alluded to this particular phenomena recently where he posited that a portion of our fan base is mentally ill.
No word as to whether his findings were peer reviewed.
It was rough to watch. People have been ragging on him a while, but he's had so many injuries, and was so good when he wasn't injured that I want to wait to see what is possible. I am holding out hope that there is rust to come off and once the season is rolling he'll be more like his old self. Its sad to see this proud warrior struggle to compete. After his level of play over the last several years, one game is enough.he's played one game
The heart is still willing, I have no doubts. It was rough to watch. You may have better luck waiting for Godot. It was rough to watch. He has gotten injured a lot in his short career for a guy who was picked for his incredible physique..Struble has a small injury, MSL thinks he should be fine to play one of the last two games of the pre-season.
I didn't know Slaf played horseshoes.Slafkovsky 5 point game incoming!
"Several years" is a little harsh, but the 2 golden years of Gally-Danault-Tatar being one the best lines in all of hockey are getting more and more historic, I'll grant you. After his level of play over the last several years, one game is enough.
To me, Evans has not gotten better since the Danault days. Maybe I expect too much but last night's breakaway that just fizzled into the boards, the lame shot from the point (like he's Shea Weber) when we were pressing to equalize, I just found his play disappointing. If Dvo can come into the top 9 as a winger, and the young guys take a step, I would consider that a top 9 without deadweight. It's a long shot for them to be a good forward group. Mainly because they would have to stay healthy. But, at least it would be mainly young, and complemented by vets that could bring us a good return if they produce (Monahan, Anderson, Dvo). How well Dach and Newhook can lead a line is a big variable. Then there are wingers like Salf, RHP, and Anderson that have shown flashes.
Cole - Suzuki - Monahan
Slaf - Dach - RHP
Evans/Dvo(?) - Newhook - Anderson
Pearson - Dvo/Evans - Gallagher/Ylonen
(I also really liked Evans on the wing with Danault and Gallagher before the Scheifele hit. Maybe he can complement Newhook and Anderson).
I believe this behavior from the Leafs fan is called coping...One can find this particular affliction among the fans of teams in all professional sports. No idea what his current injury is, but he had a recurrent season start groin injury issue in the past. He went to consult specialists but nothing conclusive came out of those consultation from what I remember. Kent Hughes would know about them, he was his advisor before becoming the Habs GM.He has gotten injured a lot in his short career for a guy who was picked for his incredible physique..
he started out strong last year. fans shouldn't get on players for injuries. before that he was on one of the top 3 lines in the league fercryinoutloud, but we didn't sign our 1C because he wanted an extra $20.After his level of play over the last several years, one game is enough.
Evans is a warrior. He slid to block a shot last night late in the game. Easy to say he's replaceable, but the player coming in better have heart. These guys, especially coming off injury, don't want to get hurt in a stupid preseason game.To me, Evans has not gotten better since the Danault days. Maybe I expect too much but last night's breakaway that just fizzled into the boards, the lame shot from the point (like he's Shea Weber) when we were pressing to equalize, I just found his play disappointing.
