Kind of have a feeling Reinbacher is going to make the opening night roster. Barron sucking and Matheson hurt is setting it up, now weve got him paired with Guhle and they would probably like to show him off a bit to justify the pick before sending him off to Europe.
Not for 1 second do I believe they put him on the team
He's 100% going back to Europe

But definitely looking forward to seeing that pair again tonight
And Newhook with our 2 stars

Agreed. But this remains one of the weakest groups of forwards in the NHL. Way, way too much dead weight. We will struggle to score. The silver lining is there is a lot of top offensive talent available in the 2024 Draft. And we will have an opportunity to draft one.
If Dvo can come into the top 9 as a winger, and the young guys take a step, I would consider that a top 9 without deadweight. It's a long shot for them to be a good forward group. Mainly because they would have to stay healthy. But, at least it would be mainly young, and complemented by vets that could bring us a good return if they produce (Monahan, Anderson, Dvo). How well Dach and Newhook can lead a line is a big variable. Then there are wingers like Salf, RHP, and Anderson that have shown flashes.

Cole - Suzuki - Monahan
Slaf - Dach - RHP
Evans/Dvo(?) - Newhook - Anderson
Pearson - Dvo/Evans - Gallagher/Ylonen

(I also really liked Evans on the wing with Danault and Gallagher before the Scheifele hit. Maybe he can complement Newhook and Anderson).

Not a big fan of that first line, way too small. But we'll see...

I'm not in the "Slaf must develop in the NHL" gang, but if they keep him up, the only player I can see him succeed with as of this moment, is Dach. When he matures and gains that man strength, he will be an entire line on his own.

Kidney gets his two best linemates yet. Will be inteteresting to see what he does with it.

I don't care for that 4th line.

Good to see Barron getting a chance to redeem himself after last night's disastrous game.
I think it’s ultimately too small but you can’t not try those 3 together.

Dvo is probably more useful on the LITR. :sarcasm:
All kidding aside, Dvo scored at a pace of 48 points per 82 games his first year in Montreal. I still hope we can find the right line for him to be a winger on, and produce, and be traded for a decent return. One can dream.

Dvo can be frustrating. He’s not an Armia-level deadweight but he does perform disappearing acts. Soon enough we’ll be rid of all these inconsequential types and we’ll replace them by cheaper, more disposable others.

There is never a shortage of droppings on a roster no matter who the GM is.

Maybe we'll even get a first for Dvorak... a man can dream.

Barron has a chance to redeem himself ....
It's interesting though that Reinbacher is playing with Guhle and not Barron. I suppose on a back to back after a tough night it may be better to have Barron less in the spot light right away.

But heading into the season, given Savard and Guhle weren't good in the analytics department, I was thinking Barron or Kovacevic would be leading candidates to start the season next to Guhle. So this would be a good time to try Guhle-Barron from that standpoint.

I get the feeling that Riley Kidney will play well tonight. Just a hunch.
The pp was bad last year and even worse last night.

But I'm at least looking forward to the personnel this year on the top 2 units:

Dach
Caufield RHP Suzuki
Matheson

Monahnan
Newhook Anderson/Ylonen Slaf
Guhle/Barron/Xhekaj/Harris/Mailloux

Exactly
You gotta at least "try" it

Tatar 5"10 - Danault barely 6" and Gallagher 5"8 wasn't any bigger
And they seemed just fine for 2 years?
That's because Danault and Gally had no issue participating in board battles and winning them (when Gally was in much better shape). Tatar did it too to a lesser extend.

Suzuki and Caufield aren't exactly good at board battles and their lines really need someone who can do it. That's why they work with Monahan and especially Dach, but doesn't with Anderson (who despite his size is not good at board battles).

Is this a Sportsnet game? Saturday night, you'd figure it would be a national game of SN is involved.

Yeah I don't see many board battles for that trio lol
But I see a lot of speed, a lot of odd man rush transitions, possible cycling if the right D are on the ice

Like I said, you have to at least try it

I don't think Barron has any defensive awareness at all and he's a liability out there. He needs to standout in the pre-season and reassure the coaching staff he can be thrown out there in a lot of situations, he hasn't done that. People keep saying 'relax its the pre-season' but this is where you can win a job , or lose one. I'm looking forward to seeing how Reinbacher can close the gap and cover for Guhle, it will be a good test.

I don't get the decision to put Barron with Norlinder. Both are shaky in their own end, Barron clearly has some confidence issues so why not,

Guhle Barron
Norlinder Reinbacher
This is what I said. I guess because Barron is on a back to back and MSL had already wanted to see Reinbacher with Guhle. Maybe Barron's bad game last night had MSL decide to stick Barron on a 3rd pair to at least see a little more of him, without putting him on a 2nd pair on a back to back.
