If you'd asked me a month ago to pick an impact forward, a physical defenceman, and 2 depth role players to add to the Leafs' roster, I couldn't have named a better fit than ROR, McCabe, Accairi, and Laferty.

These guys are exactly what the team has been missing. And it wasn't like the team was a mess beforehand.

Cheers can you give us your analysis of each guy? What can we expect of them on our team.

McCabe is a solid 4-6 who prefers ld rather than rd but is able to play both. He has been good for us this year but last year he seemed hurt quite a bit. This year I don’t know if he has missed any games to be honest and that would be his biggest knock.

Lafferty is big and fast. Surprises defenders and he skates by them and a little bit of a mean streak at times. But his motor goes all game. He is great on PK as well. He scores more than we thought he would and that is mostly due to Luke per the Athletic. Amazing when you have a coach actually coach unlike the last 2-3.

I do t think the Hawks have a roster that can beat an AHL team now.

- Acquiring McCabe means Gio can drop down to 3rd pairing which is ideal considering the anticipated long grind of the playoffs. Key word "anticipated".

- Amazed Dubas got all 4 of these players without giving up any prospects of note.

- So when Murray comes back, what's the plan? Unless Dubas is working on another deal to move some salary, which I'd be surprised since he seems to want to keep everyone.

They will move out salary to activate Murray. Someone like Kerfoot or Holl or Engvall will get moved for a pick.

Could potentially be someone like Sandin (low chance) if a team offered up a particularly valuable pick or prospect

I keep Kerfoot over Engvall in a heartbeat. Kerfoot has at least shown well in the playoffs, for my money Engvall will be useless. As soon as the open ice disappears so does he.

Jake McCabe has spent virtually his entire career playing on defensive disasters.

What are the expectations here? Has this guy been a diamond in the rough for awhile now?

The teams have been garbage fires, McCabe has held his own. He's not the next coming of Pronger but he will push people out of the line up, which will improve our team, he is addition through subtraction.

Encouraged by this because it means the Leafs will not be spending much more (barring more moves) on their D next year. McCabe $$$ replaces Holl.
