I still think we should trade Evans and get heavier and nastier. I like Evans but hate how soft this team is.

Okay here's a question for you, what is his development history? He was definitely not 3rd line quality when he was younger, but he's kind of gotten better every year. Clearly this year has been his best, but he was starting to really stand out when scheifele hit him, then he took some time and has worked his way back to the level he's at today. I don't think #1 is far-fetched, and I'd go as far as to offer #3: Evans is clearly not a 4th liner, and he is somewhere firmly in the 3rd liner tier but definitely not in the 2nd liner tier at all.How good do you think Evans is?
Let's go through the logic tree.
#1: Evans is really what he's playing like this year: a luxury third line center. Kind of like Lars Eller and Jordan Staal in their primes.
If that is the case, then I'm wrong, he should in fact be signed for what many are discussing, 4 or 5 years at 4 or 5 million a year. That would then be a great deal. And people would look back on people like me suggesting that Evans be signed for two years, and laugh.
#2: Evans is an above average fourth line C or average/below average third line C.
That's what he's been for most of his career. In that case he should be able to help the Habs over the next two years. After which Hage, Newhook, Beck, Kappanen, Xhekaj, etc can take over the bottom-6 C positions. One spot opens up next year with Dvorak leaving, another spot in two years when Evans leaves.
The Habs also are not tight on cap space in this period.
Yes.Were they soft for the almost quarter of the season when they were the best team in the league?
well I'll take that "soft" team any day of the week. Hopefully they can add more skill so that when depth/non offensive guys go down like Heineman and Guhle, the big guns can carry them.Yes.

I think the Habs should evaluate his value on the market, and sign him if they can't get: a late 1st/2026 1st or a roster player/prospect about to make the jump to the NHL. The cap is rising and I'm sure Evans ask isn't insane. Hughes knows how to get a deal done
Where did we draft Jake Evans again? We already have Owen Beck, Kapanen and Hage.We are out of the playoff mix now. It didn’t take long. I still think Evans is a good addition to this club going forward. I think the teams willing to trade us a first for him str going to be teams near the top of the standings, meaning a very late first. We will be scrambling in hopes of drafting a player who might someday be as good as Evans. If a deal can be reached, I think we need to keep him.

He's got great wheels and staminaI don't know honestly. It's hard to evaluate Evans. His brain is great, but his athletic tools are lacking.
I don't think ot was the heavy game.So you don't get why they couldn't play that heavy game for more than a month? lol, goes back to being soft
I don't think ot was the heavy game.
More talent. Better goaltending.
It is reported that contract talks are not going well and we all know what that means. Evans wants a chance to win and he wants to get paid. He gets one of those two desires by signing here and for that reason I think he's gone.
I think so too...........that said, the new ever rising cap is going to net the players contracts they want, and not what the GM's want to pay...............The salaries of players are about to take off in the next 2-3 seasons, and the agents will hold the GM's at ransom. KH may have to change his stance a bit on $$$ or term.It is reported that contract talks are not going well and we all know what that means. Evans wants a chance to win and he wants to get paid. You'd be wrong. We have next to no heavy game and I'd suggest you read this article about what it takes to win the cup in this decade let alone trying to get into the post season.I don't think ot was the heavy game.

We do need, a couple of heavy hitting players, ala Anderson, who can skate. There is a lot to be said, for having a heavy game especially in da playoff. You'd be wrong. I think we are trying to work our way towards having that balanced attack with size physicality and talent. We do need, a couple of heavy hitting players, ala Anderson, who can skate. There is a lot to be said, for having a heavy game especially in da playoff.
No disrespect to players, like Caufield, Hutson, etc but look at a guy like Suzuki, he is thick, and can handle the hits, and the game how it's played anyway....you can't have too many small skilled guys, without having a better balance of heavy hitting skilled guys also.
I wish we could draft a Cam Neely type of kid....

No we need a good balance of both. The regular season is all about how do you win games when you aren't at your best. Some of those games could be special teams wins while others could be the physical dissuade your opponent type of wins but I think you need both.Could be. But one article doesn't prive anything. So be careful about right and wrong.
In your opinion, we only need size? We have enough talent?
