Confirmed with Link: Leafs acquire Jake McCabe (@50%), Sam Lafferty, cond. 2024 and 2025 5th round picks for Joey Anderson, Pavel Gogolev, 2025 1st (top 10 prot), 2026 2nd

On one hand, I like that Lafferty and McCabe are signed for next year. On the other, Dubas is leaving an empty cupboard for his successor after the inevitable 1st rd exit

- Acquiring McCabe means Gio can drop down to 3rd pairing which is ideal considering the anticipated long grind of the playoffs. Key word "anticipated".

- Amazed Dubas got all 4 of these players without giving up any prospects of note.

- So when Murray comes back, what's the plan? Unless Dubas is working on another deal to move some salary, which I'd be surprised since he seems to want to keep everyone.

That's my GM right there

Anderson and Gogolev had played themselves out of a future in the big leagues here
A first is obviously expensive, but now's the time to go in, and once again, we did it to not only get 1 but 2 roster pieces

It was put up or shut up time for Dubas, and we still need to win, but he's at least making shrewd contender moves. You don't win Cups without moving draft capital - just ask Tampa.

Awesome! The retention is particularly fantastic to get him at just 2 million is fantastic. Leafs have now added 3 impact players, with Knies still to join the team in a few weeks.

Likely means 1 of Kerfoot, Holl or Engvall will near certainly be traded by Friday.

I will say, I do hope Joey Anderson manages to find his niche in Chicago. Never quite worked out here but I always liked him as a player

Get me this guy, he wont cost much, maybe a 3rd or 4th and will put the fear of god in most fancy forwards coming down the wing.

SCOUTING REPORT
The Russian forward is as tough as nails and will drop the gloves with anyone. More than just a fourth-line scrapper, he has patience, vision and good playmaking skills. Plays well without the puck. Is still learning when to pass and when to take the shot himself. Can play either wing or center and is a solid penalty killer.
Long Range Potential : Big, tough two-way forward.

Dubas is going for it. I love this. O'Reilly, McCabe, Acciari, Lafferty....Leafs just got harder to play against for sure. McCabe gives us a top 4 D-man for the next 2 years @ 2 million too. Wondering how this all shakes out, as now it appears someone on D is going to have to go or sit, as well as someone on F. More things may be to come.

Jake McCabe has spent virtually his entire career playing on defensive disasters.

What are the expectations here? Has this guy been a diamond in the rough for awhile now?

On one hand, I like that Lafferty and McCabe are signed for next year. On the other, Dubas is leaving an empty cupboard for his successor after the inevitable 1st rd exit

Empty in draft pick capital, but the prospect capital is still there .. Knies, Niemela, Robertson, Holmberg, Minten, plus many others are all still in the organization that are trending well.

Interesting enough if this playoff flops again a new GM could restock some cupboards in a retool by moving one of the core players.

No picks will catch up to them at some point, but not for a few years.
