Confirmed with Link: Leafs acquire Jake McCabe (@50%), Sam Lafferty, cond. 2024 and 2025 5th round picks for Joey Anderson, Pavel Gogolev, 2025 1st (top 10 prot), 2026 2nd

I couldn't agree more.

First of all, this is no rental, this is a quality player, and with retention to boot, giving up a 1st is no problem. If the players can't get it done now I don't know how anyone with a functioning brain can blame it on Dubas, he's done his job, now it's on the players to do theirs.

Reminds me of the Muzzin trade. Really hope we're not sitting here 3 years from now with 3 more 1st round exist and people saying this was a dumb move on Dubas' part because he have nothing to show for it.

Just hope Matthews gets going, and our goaltending holdsIf up. GLG!!

If the team can't get it done now the core is flawed & must be disbanded AND THE COACH FIRED..I give Dubas credit for providing the team with the help....am pleasantly surprised.

Wonder how the line up will look? Who’s out for Mcabe?

McCabe is a LD, its not even close Sandin and Timmons sits.

1st - Rielly (LD) and Brodie (RD) play great together
2nd - McCabe can play (RD/LD) - Holl (RD) -
3rd - Gio and Lily - Lilly plays above his pay grade with Gio that is our 3rd pairing

Sandin is a riverboat gambler, not the type of risky D you want in the playoffs, Timmons has about 60% deployment in the O zone, very sheltered minutes, not a guy you chose to rely on on the playoffs

what type of player is McCabe? Does anyone know if he is physical or PKs?

He does everything well. Doesn't play the powerplay.

Led the Hawks defense in hits (122). Has a positive takeaway vs giveaway ratio.

In terms of pure Goals For % at 5v5, he led the hawks d at 51%. Yup, somehow had more goals scored for than against when he's on the ice on that awful team. The next highest d-man was Connor Murphy at 43%.

Physical and can do PK. He's Top 20-25 in Hits and Blocks this year among d-men and has managed a +7 rating with a dumpster fire team.

Muzz 2.0. I love this. He fills a need and the salary works. The skaters are ready. Lets hope the coach and the goalies are as well.

Muzz but a little bit of a sloppyier d-man. Still good but Muz is a solid 3, McCabe is just a notch below Muzz.

SCOUTING REPORT
Is not a big point producer along the blueline but does an adequate job of getting the puck out of danger, which can lead to scoring chances. His defense-first style of play makes him a good fit alongside an offensive partner. He can play heavy minutes at even strength, kill penalties and even take an occasional turn on the power play.
Long Range Potential : Defensive defenseman (when healthy).

What does this say for Sandin though?

McCabe is better on LD according to blackhawk fans.

Rielly
Gio
McCabe

is pretty much set.

I love this trade... I think this trade is a lot better than the ROR trade.

Gave up a 1st and a 2nd but have the players for 2 and 3 years...

Our depth is pretty crazy now.

Are we done? We have 8 NHL D and are they making room for Knies?

What are the lines?

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Lafferty - ROR - Jarnkrok
Engvall - Kampf - Acciari
ZAR, Knies

Rielly - Liljegren
Brodie - Holl
Gio - McCabe
Sandin, Timmins

Awesome! The retention is particularly fantastic to get him at just 2 million is fantastic. Leafs have now added 3 impact players, with Knies still to join the team in a few weeks.

Likely means 1 of Kerfoot, Holl or Engvall will near certainly be traded by Friday.

I will say, I do hope Joey Anderson manages to find his niche in Chicago. Never quite worked out here but I always liked him as a player
Co-sign on Anderson.
Good pro. He and his class kinda got extra screwed by Covid flat cap.

Finally Dubas listened to my proposals.
Well done on getting Lafferty as well.

I'm stoked about Lafferty. He's not going to score a tone but will bring a defensive dynamic we don't have much of in the bottom 6. Speed.

SCOUTING REPORT
Skates well and offers plenty of energy, though his offensive skills are limited. Uses his speed effectively on the forecheck to make life miserable for opposing defensemen. Can pick up his teammates' pace with his energy. Is also becoming a useful penalty killer. The fact he can play any forward position adds to his overall value.
Long Range Potential : Pesky depth forward.
