Benning loves to trade his players for players instead of prospects/picks even when it's clear that the latter is needed. Kerfoot is from Vancouver, perhaps Benning sees him as a long-term piece and wants to try him out before signing.

I think the point he was making is if Sandin can't earn his minutes based on merit, he's not that valueable to begin with. He's a bottom of the lineup player, in 3 years he may be an All Star but right now he's not a playoff defencman. IMO, I think Timmons has passed him on the depth chart.

Not really, they haven’t had the depth or roster makeup they have now. With such a soft group he has needed for years to make the rest of the roster tough to play against. This team should be tough to play against
