The fact that no one has picked up on this is astonishing. The first “review” was clearly just to get anything obvious out of the way e.g, puck across the line, obvious kick, etc.

It was rather obvious based on how the ref said “the call on the ice is a good goal”
I think everyone picked up on it.

Matthews has gotten the better of him, but you can trash Price all you want, when it comes to playoffs he can almost single handedly win a series
that is IF you can make it there at all with him as your starter playing 60+ games, theres no guarantee of that anymore with him. when price is on his game theres nobody better, but its been 3 or 4 years since he has been a top goalie imo.

Just want to point out how good the underlying numbers of the Leafs PK has been this year, especially in the North division.

Corsi Against/60: 75.55 (2nd lowest in the NHL, 1st in the North)
Shots Agianst/60: 41.53 (3rd lowest in the NHL, 1st in the North)
Scoring Chances Against/60: 44.41 (12th lowest in the NHL, 1st in the North)
High Danger Chances Against/60: 17.3 (11th lowest in the NHL, 2nd in the North)
Overall Expected Goals Against/60: 4.93 (3rd lowest in the NHL, 1st in the North)
Team Save% on the PK: 83.33 (22nd highest in the NHL, 5th in the North)
Actual Goals Against/60: 6.92 (14th lowest in the NHL, 2nd in the North)

Goaltending was really brutal on the PK the first month but has really started to come around to show a better reflection of one of the better PK teams in the league. Toronto totally dominant on special teams this year.

What's with the obsession HF Oilers have with the Leafs? Just looked at the title of post game thread.

They have the best player in the world and still so much insecurity.

I wonder if it's the majority or an HF-ism? Similar to those on here who have Matthews and Marner but can't get past their Leafs guilt (the, this is why everyone hates Leafs fans, folks.)

Here is my goal breakdown.
1st goal...Matthews from Marner and Rielly...
Rielly passes from the point to Marner on the left. Matthews raised his stick to signal he was ready for the shot and Marner plays a beautiful pass for Matthews perfect impossible to stop shot. These guys communicate.

Boyd from Thornton and Matthews.
Matthew's gets the puck on the blue. Has Marner behind him as support...great positioning btw. Great pass to Thornton on left who threads a beauty to Boyd for the goal. This was a purely skilled execution with great defensive redundancies to look after any possible turnover.

Kotkaniemi goal...
I can only say wtf Willy. He swings through the ozone for a scoring chance with broadie for a nice try. The puck turns over with Broadie too deep and instead of picking up defensive responsibilities, Nylander strolls to the bench for a change allowing a breakaway. Willy thinks his only responsibility is offensive here and would have prevented that breakaway if he decided to shift when the leafs were in possession.

Marner from Matthew's and Bogo.
Nice stretch pass to Matthew's, who chips it in perfectly for Marner who with beautiful stick work scores a beauty.

Matthew's from Rielly and Marner.
Beautiful hustle from Marner, who goes in deep to flip the puck backwards to Rielly...who has moved in the perfect spot behind him. Rielly to Matthews who snaps a great shot in.
Matthews is a fantastic shot but I cant say enough of Marner and Rielly for their positional awareness to give Matthews the shot.

Kerfoot from spezza and Tavares.
Starts with Rielly quickly digging the puck out of the defensive back wall. Jt...working in a phone booth, gets the puck to spezza who passes a nice royal road pass to kerfoot from the right side to kerfoot for the tap in.

Tofolli goal...
Muzzin got hurt here with a stick. He slowly skates off for this goal. He should have dropped to the ice for a whistle. I dont know what he was thinking but he left Holl out to dry.
Another wtf moment.

Nice review. Can't blame Muzzin for not thinking straight, he was probably picking splinters out of his eyelids.
I wonder if he's alright? Haven't heard much.

Tbh I think our team defense is slipping and I hope they start tightening things up again.
The problem usually begins in the ozone. When the d gets into threatening for a goal, there is often no defensive backstop. Its fundamental that the forwards know to cycle back or the d to understand that there has to be an available forward backstop if they move in or pinch.

Montreal's impressive underlying numbers aren't trustworthy, IMO.

They are the team embodiment of Brady Tkachuk. Just banging away at the goalies pads and having it pad their xG numbers. If that was a viable strategy, Zach Hyman would be a $10 million player.

Actually it made perfect sense how that played out. The system worked perfectly. The first review was because they had to check if it crossed the line. That made the call on the ice a goal so it was up to Keefe to then contest the goalie interference. They reviewed and he was right. What more can we ask than that?
Ok....I never heard the explanation that the first review was to see if it crossed the line.

Remember all that bizarre talk preseason about how teams like Montreal were super deep and Toronto had no depth? Those were always bizarre takes to me based on nothing. The Habs 3C had 8pts last year and people thought they had great depth? Nutso.

Always, here's the forward scoring paces over last year and this year, from best to worst:

With our luck, he'll be out 6 weeks

It's the D specifically Reilly that is causing it to look bad. Some bad pinches and brain dead passes leading to breakaways and 2 on 1's.

If Andersen can generally play like he did yesterday, we will go far. Yesterday should be the expectation, not an anomaly, for a Cup contending starter. Didn't give up as many rebounds, and the ones he did were not leading to extended cycles or easy second chances. No weak goals. He gave up two breakaway goals but at least he made some huge saves at other times.

So the bolded is either your bias or just string the pot.
Nylander was not even at the blue line when the puck was taken by Kotkaniemi, who was in full stride and past the center line before Nylander was even at the defensive blue line on the far wing away from where the play started. He was not even in the play so calling him out for this play seems rediculous. Either Vesey or rielly should have picked up K (I'm not attempting to spell his name again) as there were 3 leafs converging on the puck carrier.
So drop the bias or the agenda please
Rewatch it if you can't recall how it happened

Looks like we found our new whipping boy...

You would think after over half a decade of Gardiner and Barrie that people would know what bad pinches and brain dead passes look like... And Rielly doesn't make them very often. At worst he is overly aggressive, which comes with its fair share of risks, but has also done a lot to help us offensively and what made him successful both this year and in 2018-2019 when he had 20 goals and 72 points.

It was Boyd, not Vesey. Boyd also messed up on the 2nd goal. Shouldn't be a surprise... He is not a good defensive forward.

Rielly could have backed off to the middle with Tavares pressuring, but with that extra forward there, he was in the right spot so Tatar didn't get the easy entry. The extra forward should have been covering the middle, and that extra forward was Boyd. He was just caught puck watching.

Lots of confidence on their boards that they can beat the Leafs due to their 5 on 5 numbers. After watching them for 3 games, I don’t find them all that scary, they possess the puck sure, but have almost no game breaking talent and that’s clearly why Leafs have won 3 times and they’ve won once
