Just finished watching.

Andersen was the reason the Leafs won that game.

Talk about defensive leaks, whoa.

Leafs' goaltender beat the Canadien's goaltender.

Yeah, the difference was Andersen in this game 100%.

I don't think we should ignore some of the big saves that Price made to start the game on Nylander when he cut in and end of the 1st period. He did rob Mikheyev point blank in front of the net.

I'm not sure how many times Holl got beat when he actually had 2 or 3 steps on the guy in the first place. That was probably the worst game of the season for Holl and I think he's been very good this season.

If Dubas wants be a good gm he needs to make bold decisions. And one of them is to trade Nylander. You can't spend 7 mil for guy who half of the time doens't even bother to try.

Trade Nylander and Sandin for true number two young D. And acquire to replace Nylander some soon to be UFA guy who will do anything to earn big deal next year.

By that logic Tavares should be traded yesterday. Imagine 11m guy who not only doesn't show up half the time but also gives up odd man rushes every other game.

Why does a goal count after the the first review and then not count after the second review? It's the NHL.
I think they didn’t look at goalie interference on first refs conference. Probably discussed if that was kicked in or if any of refs wanted to blow the whistle before puck crossed the line. And I thought there was a whistle. They decided it was ok goal.
But on coach challenge they looked at that pad being pushed into the net with puck under it and that was illegal play.

I will be the first to admit that JT is playing the worst hockey of his career this year without the puck and his atrocious passing and seems to be lost , there’s no denying it , but I will not agree at all that he’s not “ showing up “ he is a professionals professional , he is a driven athlete and he’s a hell of a captain with lots or prior accolades in all tiers of the sport ..
A player like him doesn’t just fall off the cliff , in my opinion he’s trying so hard that it’s backfiring
Believe me I know the feeling ,
He’s forcing passes and trying to come back hard but not taking the right man all the time , he’s thinking to much as well , also he doesn’t look happy because of his results and his 11 mil hanging over his head constantly also I don’t think that WN is the right fit for him , he needs 2 muckers in there with talent and speed , Hyman , soup , Robertson , so that his lack of speed is masked and they can get him the puck in various spots in the slot , high and low and in front of the net , he shouldn’t be the one going into the corners ...
He’s still producing somewhat , but I think he needs a break and for them to change up his line mates .
He will be back and hopefully for the playoffs

So the bolded is either your bias or just string the pot.
Nylander was not even at the blue line when the puck was taken by Kotkaniemi, who was in full stride and past the center line before Nylander was even at the defensive blue line on the far wing away from where the play started. He was not even in the play so calling him out for this play seems rediculous. Either Vesey or rielly should have picked up K (I'm not attempting to spell his name again) as there were 3 leafs converging on the puck carrier.
So drop the bias or the agenda please
Rewatch it if you can't recall how it happened

I watched that play at least 15 times. Willy bailed prematurely after his offensive attempt was completed. He wasn't even tracking the puck visually.

Remember all that bizarre talk preseason about how teams like Montreal were super deep and Toronto had no depth? Those were always bizarre takes to me based on nothing. The Habs 3C had 8pts last year and people thought they had great depth? Nutso.

Mtl has great depth. Most forwards being in deepest basement of the league in scoring that is.

Then your bias is completely blinding you.
Willie was on the left wing, top of the circle when the puck was turned over at the blue line on the right wing.
He was effecting a line change as there were 3 other leafs in position and he was so far out of the play that him changing probably got a replacement on the ice and in position before he could have gotten there.
There is a difference on giving up on a play and never being in the play. That's like saying whoever was standing in front of the net should have been back there to stop the breakaway

Watch where he is facing at 1641 left in the second and where he is going. Completely out of the play and with only 4 leafs paying attention

Looks like the 3rd. line is developing into a 3rd. line.

Engvall looks like he's starting to get the center ice position figured out.
Mikheyev is doing okay.
Hyman looked good with them.

Not sure they'll ever be a producing line, but Keefe had them out there for some d-zone face-offs when he had the last change.

Progress.

Watch the whole play.
And where is he when the puck is turned over?
At 1641, Montreal grabbed possession and willy turned his head to the bench to shift off
1st pic willy looking at puck on top right
2nd pic a moment later leaving ice

So Willie is on the other side of the ice looks at puck and sees, Tavares Boyd and rielly are in position. Decides its safe to change as he won't reach the play in time and if anything take himself out of position if he tries, yet you think Willie is at fault here?
If you really think that, have a good day.
If you don't think that and see some logic, have a good day.
Either way I'm going out in the sun for a bit.
Enjoy!

The problem with Engvall is he is not a center. Kerfoot is a more natural fit for the center position, but he also looks good at 2LW right now.

Maybe the Leafs chase a 3C instead of a top 6 winger. There are a lot of 3C trades we can make and I doubt it costs us a lot to get it done.

Every time I look at CapFriendly and other sites that list players positions I see Engvall as LW and center, CapFriendly and others also list Kerfoot as LW and center so I would think it comes down to what a player is better at, Kerfoot is nearly invisible as a 3rd line center but he looks far more dynamic as a winger with JT and Ny even tho they aren't playing so well of late. Give Kerfoot some time and he might help those two to come alive. I think he's needed more on the 2nd than he is on the 3rd line because TO has Engvall as an option to replace him. Even tho I don't see Hy listed as a center, any where, I think he'd be a very credible center on a defensive line mostly because of his engine.

The only questions I have with Engvall being TO's 3rd line center are his consistency, he's pretty good right now but he can lose his edge for long periods so we'll see. The other issue I see with Engvall is his offensive potential, he has hands of stone, and so does his linemates from last night, a 3rd line with little to no offensive ability should be a 4th line. Based on a 82 game season if those 3 were capable of somewhere in the 30 point range, each, then coupled with their skating, size and overall game TO has a possible superior 3rd line which TO hasn't had forever.

I don't think Kerfoot has ever looked good as a center with the Leafs, he mostly is/was being used as the 3rd line center because TO didn't have other options, at least, in the eyes of Babs.

Is it only myself or does anyone else see this ?
Pierre Engvall has taken a couple steps back this year in his development, or did we over value him and he’s not a true NHLer ??
I see a guy that can easily be replaced and a player that has little confidence, his shots seem to be so weak and or right to the crest .
Again the only players I could part with and have no problem going so and replace them with upgrades are Engvall , Vesey , Kerfoot
Hopefully Robertson can take Vesey or Engvalls spot and we can get a true gritty bigger and still done offensively minded player with defensive skill to replace Kerfoot ..
I didn’t mind Hyman in that 3rd centre spot, did you ? And hopefully Robertson in the top 2 LW
Just some thoughts

Just want to say 'congratulations' again, Leafland. I think it's hard for sports fans to be honest and give credit where it's due, but to me it's undeniable that the Leafs are the best team in the North and one of the best in the league. I'm really excited to see how they do in the playoffs. This is their year to win it all.

Of course the Habs board is melting down. We take a loss against the Leafs very personally. People get full on depression over it. I can't say one good thing about the Leafs without getting jumped on. I don't share that same hatred as they're my 2nd favorite team. Hope we meet in the playoffs.. Cheers!

I'd rather the habs take Edmonton on in the playoffs instead of the leafs because they seem to have a better handle on them

Good point. If I was the Leafs I wouldn't want to face the Habs in the playoffs. You have a better team but we have a way of hanging around and being a nuisance at times..

It'd be great for the rivalry though. Been a long while since we've met in the playoffs.

I just want to play MTL at some point, don't care what round, if someone else would be an easier opponent or whatever else. I've been waiting over 40 years, if anyone doesn't want to play MTL then IMO they just don't understand the rivalry.
