4th line got caved in, top 3 lines were all over 50% xGF for the game.

The way I look at it, Simmonds and Amadio are not in the lineup once Matthews and Mikheyev are back.

Both were useless today. I hope Semyonov gets a chance (although that has nothing to do with today).

I think I'm going to Kanata tomorrow.

Will represent Leaf Nation along with the other 9500 Leafs fans.

I would have been there with you, but heading out of town. I'll be there in April ;-)

What a start! Brutal. Captain Jack was awesome the entire game. 2nd half of the first and full 2nd period was complete domination, really got on a good roll there. 3rd period was not good, but a lot of strange penalty calls.

We won, but there is tons to work on. Hopefully they got the season opener nervous energy out and can come out storming tomorrow night.

Lots of positives for this game. Some stuff needs to be cleaned up but hey, it's the first game of the season.

I can see this new group getting some nice dirty goals moving forward which the keefster wants.

On to the next.

P.s. almost had a tear come down watching Hyman getting called out in that shit ugly orange jersey.

Getting Auston back will be pretty big for this team.

That Engvall-Kampf-Kase line was fantastic and got absolutely destroyed on their usage.

Nylander just unreal as well - having that 3rd line that you can play in the D zone is going to let the big 4 feast.

Kase and Engvall looked really good for most part. Hoping Kase can stay healthy

I noticed nothing from Ritchie. Bunting look decent with few nice passes then kinda dissapeared in the 3rd
But then again Habs had like 4 PP
we wouldnt have scored the 1st goal without him screening

Rough start to the Caufield Calder campaign.

36.33 xGF%, didn't look dangerous at all despite the Habs getting so many power plays and a 5v3.

Suzuki was worse. At least Caufield had a couple of decent chances. You could hardly even notice Suzuki was on the ice, and not in the Tavares kind of way either.

Yet, here you are.

You can get lost anytime now.

Legit don't mean to be a Debbie downer. I just don't know how anyone can even care about this game considering what happened last year. Like the best we can do in a revenge game against the team that embarrassed us us eking out a 1 goal victory? A team that sucks and won't even make the playoffs.

Amadio, like Brooks, was always waiver fodder.

Simmonds is going to be kept for the year IMO.

Such a weird reaction. Quite clear that many of us said they could win the President’s Trophy and it wouldn’t matter.

Perhaps you remember the last 16 years? Or at least the last 5?

Meh. Wait till the playoffs is what this bunch has earned.

You can be giddy about the win. I’m not attacking you. All the power to you on the bandwagon.

Why do you feel the need to be hostile when someone isn’t giggly and giddy like you?

This is such a depressions post to read.

It's not a weird reaction.

You literally came in here after a win and injected pure negativity on a FAN board.

What you're doing is the weird thing.
V is for VICTIM

When V should be for VICTORY.

remove the first 5 minutes and last 5 ... it was a lopsided game

Yea, but that's the knock on these guys isn't it?

They had an overall decent effort, but how do come out flat in your home opener ,with fans finally back, against your oldest rival that just happened to eliminate you in embarrassing fashion last season?

How do you not come out breathing fire and running them into the ground from puck drop?

Seriously, I'm afraid they just don't have it in them.

Great game by Engvall. I think Dubas should look to move on from Mikheyev and take the cap breathing room.
Campbell was stellar as per usual. Hope he continues ascending into a bonafide #1 netminder.
4th line was bad tonight. Simmonds has a purpose on this team whether some see it or not. Spezza definitely has a purpose....the guy in between them needs to be a guy who plays with pace. Didn't love Amadio this game.
Kase looked really strong I thought
Kampf is the shutdown C we've been looking for
Ritchie I thought was extremely impressive. No he's not a good skater, but he doesn't get moved along the boards or infront of the net. Makes good short area plays, and overall thought he did a good job.
Bunting was a pest and I loved it. He will continue to evolve in his role as the year goes on im sure. But he too went into the dirty areas hard.
Kerfoot was uninspiring...but he has done this before and then turns it around for a stretch.
Nylander was our best forward

And a partridge pear in a tree

Very buttoned-down, business-like win. I liked that.

I thought Sandin was overpowered in the Leafs end a few times. I'd like to see Liljegren have a try next.

Sandin is probably never going to be much of a defensive defenseman. His skill level is great though.

I'd say he's Jake Gardiner-esque in his playstyle. Very high risk at times when it doesn't need to be.

Campbell gave the Leafs the best penalty kill proficiency last season, without him, their penalty killing was almost dead last. No shock he had another superb outing and gave up no powerplay goals again in this one.

Nylander looked absolutely stellar, game winner, great stick and puck handling, he was on fire.

Our third line had a boatload of shots on goal, didn't look too shabby.

Wasn't overly impressed with our 4th line, Simmonds is still a dumpster fire. Love the player, but his time as an effective player is long gone.

Tavares was good in the face-offs, but missed a lot of shots on net. His prime is also past, but can still probably put up points if he says healthy enough.

Habs fans claiming refs were in Toronto's pocket, yet I saw the total opposite. Weak call against Marner to give Montreal almost a full two minute 5 on 3 powerplay. Don't give me that excuse that the refs were one-sided for Toronto, clearly they weren't. Anderson deserved that penalty at the end, selfish and whiny player, glad Montreal lost, makes his whining that much more enjoyable to experience.

Montreal is going to be a dumpster fire this season. Montreal had a horse shoe up their asses the first half of the game, they were lucky to even be in it after two periods.

A win is a win, just hope they come out harder to start the next game because the first half of the first period is not an acceptable level of play.
