It's not a weird reaction.

You literally came in here after a win and injected pure negativity on a FAN board.

What you're doing is the weird thing.

He comes on here strictly to be an argumentative contrarian shit starter, please don't feed him.

Amadio, like Brooks, was always waiver fodder.

Simmonds is going to be kept for the year IMO.

Sure... As the 13th forward. Which is as it should be.

Still think he gets waived at some point if we really need the roster flexibility.

Nice win but the crowd was so out of it. Would it kill the people who are lucky enough to attend games to make some noise of appreciation or encouragement once in a while? When you have the first full capacity game since the pandemic hit you'd think the crowd could at least match the enthusiasm of the canned fans from last season. Its embarrassing, Martina Ortiz Luis turns the anthem over to the crowd and it was apathetic mumbling at best. This flaccid crowd put the team asleep to start the game, there was no energy at all.

THIS IS THE POST GAME THREAD. NOT YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THE SEASON THREAD AND WHY NOTHING MATTERS.

I WILL REMOVE YOU FROM THIS THREAD IF YOU CAN'T ADHERE TO VERY SIMPLE RULES AND TALK ABOUT THE GAME.

YOUR TEAM WON. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE HAPPY, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO FIND A REASON TO BE NEGATIVE.

It’s an example of how teams can use assets and create a team identity. Are any of those prospects likely to play on our 4th line with some jam and create some needed energy?

Dubas has been running drafts long enough to be able to produce some of these players, he is not able to identify effective players. It’s why he wastes his assets on Petan’s, Bracco’s, Malgin’s of the world.
Robertson we've seen play that kind of role. He is better off playing big minutes in the AHL and work on some of his weaknesses. We have drafted physical energy players. Hirvonen is a pest, Schingoethe, Knies and Tverberg play a power game. We brought in Anderson as well who is a 2 way energy guy. Like I said most of our prospects are Euros who are under contracts in their leagues. we also have a lot of prospects who are committed to school programs.

Bracco was a hunter pick. Petan and Malgin were upside gambles that we acquired by trading away Lindholm who was as mediocre as it gets and Marchment who at the time was not looking like he could keep up in the NHL. We've signed physical energy players for dirt cheap (like Bunting), that we don't need to expect a 20 yr old step in and play that kind of role. Could our prospect pool use a little bit more size and snarl? Sure, but like I said you can sign that for cheap or even trade for it with a surplus of skilled prospects. Drafting for skill and potential is a better strategy and is why we have a deep pool. Worry about the other pieces later.

For sure, he's gonna be depth injury fill-in or toughness when we need it. He'll play a role thats needed, especially against certain chippy teams.

The Good Campbell, Nylander, Tavares, Kase, Kampf, the PK
The Bad Kerfoot, Keefe's coaching
The Ugly Engvall's shot on an empty net

Mostly Good

They miss Matthews and Mikheyev, but Mostly Matthews.

Yea, but that's the knock on these guys isn't it?

They had an overall decent effort, but how do come out flat in your home opener ,with fans finally back, against your oldest rival that just happened to eliminate you in embarrassing fashion last season?

How do you not come out breathing fire and running them into the ground from puck drop?

Seriously, I'm afraid they just don't have it in them.
Why is the knock on the Leafs that they only dominated for 50/60 minutes? That's a great night for any team

I am strangely excited about Kampf being a Leaf. This guy looks like a master of doing the little things. Some of those chances that Engvall and Kase were getting actually stemmed from some subtle plays that Kampf made. He's not a total dud offensively.

Probably because there is enough turmoil and negativity in the world already. Sports is supposed to be an escape from reality.

Listening or reading people complain incessantly(not you personally) is a drag.

Is it realistic to have doubts and critique the team? For sure.

But not always and sometimes you need to just enjoy the ride. Even if ends in disaster.

45 years into my love affair with the boys and I could care less if they blow it year in and year out. Which they have. I still cheer and still have fresh optimism every year, and that really is the joy of sport.

The ride is meaningless in my opinion. Regular season means nothing other than a playoff spot. And if they can’t get that... sheesh.

I enjoyed Canada beating Panama tonight in the World Cup Qualifier. I tuned into this one for minutes at a time with mild interest.

I wish I had your optimism. Instead I have indifference. Much like the way they play in the playoffs.

It's not like the Leafs personally set out to let me down. Why take is as so

I’ve personally divested. We’ve dropped a lot of money on this team over the years as a family. Home and on the road. No more.

If they cared... ie. did something in the offseason... maybe I’d have a different view. Instead the most inspiration story coming out of the pre-season is that John Tavares invited the players to his cottage to “keep it real.”

Just my opinion of course but that’s not going to want to make me spend $1,000 on a road trip.

It is only one game, and he did play fairly well today, but I don't see the purpose of Sandin in this lineup.

Well, actually I see that his purpose is playing on the 2PP, but I don't see how that keeps him in the lineup. He is not a special talent there, and I feel like you could put any of our other 4 defenseman (not including Rielly) or Liljegren and get much of the same result.

Meanwhile, Rielly played almost 3 minutes of PK time today. Nothing against him as a PKer, as he is solid, but he is at best our 4th best PKer. Rielly is going to play a ton of minutes this year even if he rarely plays on the PK. Shouldn't we be putting in Liljegren so he can take those PK minutes? Or putting Dermott on the PK, so he does something other than just play 3rd pairing ES minutes? Those two should be solid #4 PKers themselves so we shouldn't see much of a downgrade on the PK, and then we can give Rielly more minutes at ES and in the offensive end where he is one of the best in the NHL.

Very buttoned-down, business-like win. I liked that.

I thought Sandin was overpowered in the Leafs end a few times. I'd like to see Liljegren have a try next.
Or maybe shelter him with Holl?
Rielly- Brodie
Muzzin- Lily
Sandin- Holl

but I did think our D was pretty good tonight! Lots to like in the first game of the year

I'm going to say 10 or less players in the league who can keep their head up the ENTIRE time and snipe that goal like Willy.

Literally the entire time he didn't even take one small peek.
