LD Rasmus Sandin - Rogle BK, SHL (2018, 29th, TOR)

The kid is currently sitting fourth in tournament scoring.....and he's a d-man. Yes he made a poor play in OT, but the kid obviously has had an amazing tournament and looks like a stud in the making. If you're coming in here trying to pick holes in his game after a tournament as successful as that there's no way you're going to come away here looking intelligent so do yourself a favor and move along.

Neither me nor you are leaf fans, so why would I (or you, for some strange reason) care how leaf fans act on their own board? Weird

Alright, alright, most hockey fans act this way.

Of course, it's impossible to blame a player, who scored 2+2, in losing the game, but Swedish defense overall lost that game to their Russian opponents.

Because 1st) the game was lost and 2nd) Russian defense played better in ES situations. Generally being great on PP isn't that bad at all, but in certain situations, when your team loses, it'd be much better to be great in your own zone.

Sandin is a stud.
Was put in a tough spot on that OT goal. Teammates left him out to dry and let the Russian forward come at him full speed.
Anybody judging his performance on that play is foolish.

What? The guy started at his own blue line. It was as clean a 1 on 1 as it gets. He got beat. It wasn't anyone else's fault but Sandin. Doesn't change how good he was otherwise.

Uh well we’ve actually seen him in the NHL at the beginning of the season and his skating was not an issue at all.

But again you thought Soderstrom was better this tournament, speaks to your talent evaluation or lack thereof.

Well, I guess there's a severe lack of talent evaluation from pretty much everyone within Swedish media then. The only one I've even heard hyping up Sandin before the quarters is Craig Button.

I've actually seen Sandin play since he was 14 playing for Ångermanland in a regional tournament. He's never been a particularly good skater.

Hopefully he's up with the big club soon after he returns, and we can finally fire Martin Marincin into the sun and never see him attempt hockey ever again.

Wishful thinking. We all know Marincin will once again get his standard one year, one way, league minimum contract next season.

I never said he played it perfectly. That play should never happen though.
Also while the player did get a step on him Sandin was there and kept pressure stick checking him twice before he got the shot off which wasn't from the best angle and was certainly stoppable.
Also a clear one on one would have been Sandin starting in front of the player in the neutral zone.

Guess there’s a clear disconnect between Swedish media & everyone else including the Swedish coaching staff and players themselves.

Most people here have seen him play the past couple of years in the AHL as a pro and his brief stint in the NHL. I’d say that’s a tad more relevant.

Honestly, it can be a factor, but not the reason. The reason is, people value defensemen's points way more, than defensemen's defense.

The reason couldn't possibly be that he has actually in fact been the best overall d-man in the tourney? I have a feeling when they name the best defensemen tomorrow we might be hearing his name again.
