LD Rasmus Sandin - Rogle BK, SHL (2018, 29th, TOR)

Another goal today to help his team win Bronze.

Hopefully he gets another look with the leafs this year.

He pretty much won them the Bronze medal, and was their best player. Fantastic prospect.

He should. The belief among most observers is that he's the next injury call up. There's also discussions about moving Ceci before the deadline but that's all rumours, no substantiated source.

Currently running with:

Rielly - Barrie
Marincin - Holl
Dermott - Ceci

That's not a great line up, but when Muzzin comes back, it changes significantly.

Wasn't it reported that Sandin may be with the Leafs when he returns from the WJC? You gotta think he replaces Marincin until Muzzin returns.

I don't think they will have him up right now. The tournament is pretty taxing, so they'll probably ease him back into the Marlies line-up before calling him up around the February portion of the schedule. Dubas is probably going to make another trade well before the deadline (a la Muzzin) so that might free up a spot for Sandin then.

I wouldn’t mind trying him out with Holl on the third pairing. Holl has proven reliable enough.

maybe not right away, but I don't think he'll need a month to recover. Who knows we'll see.

With his goal Rasmus Sandin becomes only the 12th defender in history to record 10 points in a #MondialJunior The last 6 (since 1995)

Pretty cool to see two former Leafers there. This is a surprisingly good indicator that he's going to be at least a top-four defenseman.

Sandin clearly the top defenceman this tournament. Yet another incredible pick (from the Soo of course) by Kyle Dubas. The young kid is showing why he’s so well respected throughout the league despite being such a young general manager. He really has lived up to his pre-nhl billing as “a hockey genius”.

Even without being a fan, it’s fun to keep tabs on Toronto’s season.
Pre NHL billing as “a hockey genius”

Substantiate your claim, leaf fan. I have checked, I can’t find this anywhere except from a select group of leaf fans

cj just said yesterday that he expects Sandin with the leafs sooner rather than later

On top of the IIHF awards, the media also selects an all-star team and MVP. Sandin and Romanov were the two dmen on the all-star team (Laf won MVP). Great tourney for Sandin!

In a way, I kind of agree with McCagg.

Sandin is very good at defending in the neutral zone and preventing clean entries. He's also actually quite good at handling hard forechecks unlike McCagg and his scouts believe. Offensively, besides the points which come and go, he's still very underrated and has great decision making.

His issue is more that he gets completely lost if a team can establish possession and start cycling the puck. He just starts chasing wildly and ends up out of position badly. His physicality and ability to handle big guys is good. His issue is simply looking lost during the cycle. He's bad at that and some scouts may look at it and write him off as a bad d-man.

those issues can easily be fixed with proper coaching and development though. Would much rather have a player who's good offensively and has some kinks to work out defensively than vise versa
