He's listed in this tourney at 175lbs now. Hope it's correct.
Everywhere I've seen is around 158. He even said so himself but hopes to add still.

I've seen so many hab fans say so many zealous things, even saying he goes top 3 in re-draft.
There's no doubt the kid is very talented but even if he miraculously hits 170 which is still tiny, he lacks the skating to avoid getting crushed, especially with his style.

Take Quinn, he's around 185 and still there was that worry but he's a master at spinning off checks while also using his iq to not put himself in vulnerable spots.

People use Spurgeon as an example but they have different body types.

Given his stature and below average defending and serious risk of injury but really good offensive ability, they should convert him to forward.

I wasn't comparing them in terms of physical play or body types but in terms of an NHL career.

That would be a very good outcome for a second rounder, people throwing around Makar here are setting unrealistic expectations.
I love how they jumped past Quinn like he's already above him.
I try not to come across as crass but many hab fans have gone even overboard compared to their þown bar of wildy overeating their prospects.
If your a small dman you have to be an elite skater and Lane is average at best and seriously has trouble doing basic techniques vitally important on defense.
That one clip from the world's was telling and it's far from the only one and when you combine that with only weighing 160, I fear for his health

Should nobody be optimistic about their team? For a hockey Mecca like Montreal, the prospect pool has been constantly more than pathetic, let em be happy about something.

If you're not a little delusional and overly hopeful, are you a fan?

A small dman has to have elite skating based on what?
The fact that most of the other small defenseman who are potential top pairing n the NHL use their great skating to compensate for their size. Only Fox has been able to manage without it.

But if you are fine with him being a 3rd pairing Powerplay quarterback then he probably doesn't need the speed. Based on the pages in this thread I doubt people are talking so much about him cause he's a potential 3rd pairing.

Theres a pretty huge difference between being on the level of Makar/Hughes and being a 3rd pairing pp specialist.

Even if lets say lack of elite skating were to prevent him from reaching his max potential, he could still become a really good offensive defenseman. He doesn't need to be a top 10 dman like Makar and Hughes to be considered good.

People claim he’s top 3 in a redraft? Lololol.

Based on every small D that’s been successful in the past 15 years. Bro has great hands and shot, I still don’t think he can get away with his frame and skating.
He dropped to end of 2nd round for a reason but good news is he's gotten bigger and faster since he was drafted. Try to project where he will be at in 2 years, not where he is now. I think he will be fast enough for sure to compensate for his small frame but I still want to see more improvement on his technical skating flaws - excessive upper body movement and unecessary "hopping" specifically when pivoting. Again, this has already improved a lot, dont see why it would stop now.

I have been watching, still struggles in the corners and in front of the net. Also have watched him struggle holding defensive blue line/entries due to skating. I would call him an average skater. I mean Sam Girard is a pretty great skater and he even struggles to defend at the NHL level. It’s going to be an uphill battle.

Hope he gets there. I just wish it wasn’t so over the top on here about him but realize it’s just pure quantity of MTL fans. But it gets annoying. I feel like I speak for others when I say that I pick on him because I see stuff like “top 3 in a redraft” and it comes off like I want to see him fail. Not at all.

He doesn't struggle in the corners. It is surprising how often he is hemmed in in the corner and somehow the puck ends up on a teammates stick.

Jared Spurgeon is like 5'7" and did just fine so Hutson should be fine assuming his overall game is at a sufficient level.

That's not true. Most of them are good skaters, not elite skaters.

Hutson will be considered a good skater at the NHL level in a few years if he continues to work on his skating. He won't be considered a good skater because of his speed or how smooth he looks, but because of how agile and shifty he is on skate.

In the world championship against professional players, he showed his skating won't be an issue for creating offense
