This thread is now NSFW for Wild and Ducks fans.

Rangers traded up to get him before Minnesota, the wild were certainly going to draft him had he been there when they were drafting but teams don't change their draft boards on the day of the draft, they work on putting those boards together all season... Brian Burke recently said, a director of scouting or scout that wants to deviate from his board on draft day has committed a fireable offense! what are you scouting all year for if it all goes in the trash. I have no doubt the K'Andre was probably the next player on their list had he been there when they picked but he wasn't so they went with the next guy..... I guess I don't really get your post! Some had K'Andre higher that he was drafted on publicised lists but not that much higher... he went about where he was suppose to!

What do you mean , “imagine”?

I remember when Isles were declared the big winners on draft day

I had Kravtsov and Dobson higher than Wahlstrom, but given how close all the picks outside of the top 2 are.. It's not hard to imagine

Yeah I’m just having a laugh. I remember when it was determined that the Islanders had the GREATEST DRAFT EVER and that Would be the reason JT re-signs with the Islanders. Big LOL.

Rangers/Isles rivalry should be fun very soon.
Sorokin vs. Shestyorkin (also very good friends)
Wahlstrom vs Kravtsov
Dobson vs Miller
Hopefully we suck enough to land Hughes this year (which looks like the case) so it can also be Barzal vs Hughes

Tweeter obviously doesn't know that Miller played most of his hockey as a forward.

I have mixed reviews on Miller so far. Has had good results, and plays bigly, but his feet look slow, even though he has good speed once he gets going. Another way to put it is that his motor tends to sputter at times.
He will have to improve his first couple of steps to be effective at higher levels.

They still might end up winning the draft.... can't know for sure until 3-4 years down the road at least.... defenseman typically take 200-300 games in the NHL to know their ceiling yet here we are 5 months removed from the draft and idiots are rating who won and lost the draft.... absolutely ridiculous!

Most of his hockey.... sure if you want to count youth hockey, he switched to defense his freshman year at Minnetonka HS.. most of his developmental hockey he has played Defense.. As far as footspeed... ummm yeah, I literally have no earthly idea what you are talking about!!!

Just watch him. I have watched him play literally 50 games live, as he grew up around here. My son played against him a couple of times. Miller is a fast skater, but often just stands stationary on the ice, rather than continuously moving to adjust to the play, as most NHL players do. I think it's as a result of him moving back to D, and it still not being natural.

It was pretty well common knowledge that Miller was still having trouble adjusting to D when he was on the NDTP, and made all kinds of mistakes. To pretend otherwise is odd. Changing instincts from one of an attacking forward to a Dman is not easy, and some never do it.

I'm not negative on Miller, at all. All his deficiencies are fixable, and his raw tools are impressive.

Minnetonka - 2014-2015 Regular Season - Roster

He is listed here as a forward. I can't remember if he played forward or D with the Skippers. I always saw him as a forward around here.

I think he switched that season, i know those rosters are not always correct either but I think he was a forward while playing bantam and switched to defense in the high school schedule if i remember right.

In regards to his foot speed, of course he is no Jake Gardiner, he's much more of a ryan suter where he's efficient and doesn't waste a lot of unnecessary energy with his movements like a PK Subban tends to do.. not comparing him to either player just using them as an example of footwork and positioning. I haven't seen any issues with his defensive posture so far this year at Wisconsin, I think at the NDTP there can be some warts show up from time to time because those teams tend to go for points and pump up their draft stock. I think Miller going into the draft was considered much more polished defensively than Wilde and Mattias Samuelsson... shown by him being traded up for and being picked before both of them.

I agree that his feet do look heavy, despite having great speed. But how often do you see a 6’4 dman with exceptional foot speed? Its pretty rare. Its a small sample size so everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but hes looked excellent so far.

Indeed will be fun to watch Shesty, Kravtsov, Miller vs Sorokin, Wahlstrom, Dobson in the future.

That first year of varsity hockey he played in ninth grade he played both positions. I saw him play D during the regular season, then they were using him at forward in the section playoffs.

wasn't sure...thought I saw him at D that year. Foot Speed is probably the wrong term. It's that he is not making those little positioning adjustments that pro hockey players make to possible situations. He waits till a situation develops, then reacts, which results in him looking slow on the first step or two, when in reality he has good speed. Many young players have the same problem, but it is more obvious with bigger ones. Jordan Greenway now, and Alex Tuch a couple of years ago, are examples of bigger players who looked "slow to go", because of anticipation problems. Tuch looks faster now, but his feet are in constant motion now. D is a different position with less movement, but there is still movement. Part of Miller's problem is that he might still be adjusting to his very big body.

I still wonder how good Miller would be if he played forward.

That's what this time at Wisconsin working eith Osiecke is for tho.... I have no doubt his feet will not be an issue when he gets to the NHL...... and Much like Gardiner that question will probably follow him his entire career. Idiots in Toronto still want Jake moved to forward....

What are we ever going to do now that we've missed out on drafting this defenseman? *looks at depth chart*

Oh, right, we'll do that. *walks away, whistling an upbeat tune*

There were reports that Anaheim was going to pick him and that's why the Rangers moved up in the draft.
