Traded for a cap hit. That's something that'll haunt Detroit.

Half the league passed on him, including the Coyotes once. Just seems like everyone collectively overthought his game. Incredible raw tools, and the smarts are there. The criticism was that the smarts are sometimes not there, yet he makes consistently good decisions at 18 in the NHL.

They moved down 3 spots, while getting rid of an albatross of a cap hit and adding a 2nd. They won't regret it any more than some of the teams that passed on him.

I guess it had to be done. I would he had a hard time doing that trade knowing I'd lose this guy personally, but I guess Detroit was in a bind.

I don't know enough about McLeod to minny's pick to comment, but it seems the top 11 were all pretty solid picks. When it gets to 16 and he's still there though...

I had pegged Buffalo/Colorado to pick him up in the top 11, was surprised to see him fall back as he did. It's early of course, but right now Keller+Chychrun looks like an amazing draft for the Coyotes

Hes going to be the best Dman from the draft class. Been saying that since day one.

Yep. I just shook my head as pick after pick went and he wasn't selected. Classic example of overscouting.

This was the guy I wanted the Leafs to get if they somehow choked tanking and started winning late in the season. Him or Logan Brown. Both having good seasons.

I wanted them to badly get another pick to get Matthews+Chychrun. Would have been a beast draft

I've been avoiding gauging where he will place, but he is really good. His pivots are flawless, loses no speed at all. He pushes at the perfect times. Have to say he's looked like the best d-man thus far.

I really hope this kid gets back to form. he went from being highly touted to a maybe bust. He dropped in the draft so it should give him incentive to drive his career. I am cheering for him

Classic example of over scouting.

In all fairness he did try and do way too much in his draft year. I watched him make an unbelievable play then turn the puck over 4 times in his next 2 shifts. That's going to scare any scout especially if you see it happen over and over again. That coupled with his shoulder issues and I'm not surprised he dropped.

In his 16 year old year he kept it simple. Looks like he is doing that at the NHL level. Incredible skill set looks to be the steal of the draft if he plays within himself.

From what I hear he was being leaned on pretty hard. Playing ~30 minutes a game and having incredibly long shifts, and most of those errors came at the end of the long shifts when he was exhausted. I didn't see many games so I'm not sure if this was true throughout the season but I could definitely see it in the games I watched.

It would have all worked out perfectly if he had had a good season in Jr last year... Wanted him in Vancouver so bad and we we're in the spot to grab him... I've been salivating over the thought of Chychrun since 2015 but one mediocre season caused 14 teams to throw up a red flag...

I understand him falling from his projected top 3, but 16th really was too late.

Looked great last night. I want to see this guy's birth certificate though, he looks 30

I don't think he was going to crack the top 3/4 regardless. However, every team from #5 to #15 will wonder if they made a mistake.

he actually makes a difference when playing this year for the Yotes. A lot of times young dmen are just there and try not to make mistakes, but he actually makes a difference for the team and IMO was Yotes best dman last night
