He should be a very good 3rd pairing D or an OKish 2nd pairing. He's decent.

Excellent scouting report. Except I don't see why you think he's good enough to be an OKish 2nd pairing defender. I mean he's already 18 years old so his window is closing pretty quick.

In all seriousness I would love to see a list of the last 5 defensman to make the NHL at the age if 18. I would be shocked if any of them turned out to be career bottom pairing defenseman in the NHL. Bottom line is dmen take longer to develope then any other position beside maybe goalie, so for one to make the NHL at the age of 18 usually takes a special talent. Off the top of my head the last two that I can remember are Ekblad and Hanafin

Hanifin, Ekblad, Jones, Murray, Larsson, Fowler, Hedman, Kulikov, Doughty, Schenn.

Those are all the guys who played a full season, right out of the draft. There are some others who broke with camp right out of the draft but never played a full year in the NHL (some because they got hurt, others because they got sent down).

It's hilarious that people are still thinking that he can't develop much more at 18. It's just because their analysis of his game when he was drafted was so wrong. Now, they have to make these ridiculous declarations.

People said that about Ekblad too.

weird he is scratched tonight. Thought he was unreal last game

Sounds like they want to keep players fresh. He also hit the boards hard on Friday and may be a little sore. This isn't so much because of his play but more of to rotate players in/out during this two week road trip.

should we begin the rumor of Chychrun being sat out due to a potential Trouba/chychrun type swap??haha

Looking like the best dman of the draft class, well done yotes!

Was saying it all last year even when Juolevi and Sergachev were coming up fast. I'm glad to see he's been doing really well so far. He can be a really dynamic player for them.

Hopefully the scratch isn't something to do with an injury.

Pretty good company there.

Doughty, Hedman, Ekblad = #1 franchise D

Jones, Hanifin = too early to tell, but could be #1D

Murray, Larsson, Fowler, Kulikov = #2 D, bit of a spectrum here
And then Schenn :( Sad leafs fan here

But seriously if he sticks for the year he's in elite company. Yotes GM looking like a very smart guy early on.

Are you talking about Ryan Murray? Because he injured his shoulder in the lockout season (his draft +1) and was out for the year. He didn't make his debut til his draft +2 along with Rielly, Trouba and Lindholm from his draft class.

If Chychrun can stick it would be a rare accomplishment. Very few guys stick as an 18-year-old, the only recent ones being Ekblad and Hanifin, who both had unique situations in regards to development (Ekblad played 3 years of junior having been granted exceptional status, Hanifin skipped a grade to play NCAA a year early, plus played with the U-18's as a 16 year old.

Murray, Jones, Kulikov, Larsson, Fowler, Hedman, Schenn, Doughty - all these guys were late birthdays. They were drafted a year later than the rest of the players in their birth year, giving them an extra year of development before being drafted. It is more accurate to say they played in the NHL in their draft+2 season.

The only guys on that list who truly played in their draft+1 seasons are Ekblad and Hanifin. It's very very rare.

Good point.

Great info there, thanks for posting it. Insane what he's accomplishing. I'm sure it sucked for him, but selfishly as a coyotes fan I'm glad he had a rough tournament, otherwise I doubt he would've fallen to us even at 7, let alone 16. It also makes that trade to trade up and get him look better. In a vacuum it was a lot to give up for 4 spots, but when you consider who we picked it may prove to have been a bargain.

They wanted to get the D he was covering for in a game. Connauton must be feeling the pressure because he didn't play very well.

Pretty safe bet that he sticks.

First goal, pretty nice shot placement. One of the few things worth watching tonight down 4-1.
