I agree. I think he'd easily make the Coyotes out of camp if it weren't for the logjam on defense there. A lot of people seem to be following the pack mentality on rating him, without actually looking at the reasons behind his stock falling.

His shoulder injury, and shift in the style of play the coach wanted for his team, has definitely played into his bad year. Don't get me wrong, he deserves blame for his bad play and he's said as much, but I think people are being a bit unfair towards him here.

Don't forget bulking up a bit too much trying to be strong for his draft year. Didn't all manifest as muscle, and his speed/mobility was affected. He has talked about it, and see the difference in the second half when he basically decided to trim over 10 lbs off and go from there. Injury didn't help either, that's for sure. Just don't think any "style" affects Chychrun that much one way or the other (beyond the ability to produce scout-impressing stats, I guess). He's as "all-round"/"all situation" as they come.

As a Habs fan I love ending up with Sergachev. But he's still a coin flip for me against Chychrun.

He's looked very impressive thus far.

I knew he was a good skater, but I didn't realize it was at this level. Good lord can he skate

Kid should of never dropped out of the top ten

Typical NHL scout group think. Kid doesn't play out of his mind with the expectations they place on him so he's not a top 10 talent. Logan Stanley is 6'7 and able to lace up his skates and they gotta have him! They may be professionals but it doesn't mean they are always right in their assessments. Hope this kid becomes an elite top pairing beast just to prove them all wrong.

Once he fell out of the top 10 I was hoping and praying the Leafs could move up get him.

Getting out of the draft with Matthews and Chychryn would've been exciting.

Glad to see he's doing well so far

I watched plenty of him, being in Windsor, and he's always been a special kid. The shoulder seemed to nag his reputationbut he's always been a top 10 pick.

Happy to see him go to 'Zona, and add some excitement to an already excellent prospect pool. You Desert Dogs are gonna be a great young team in no time.

I'm a Habs fan and he was my favorite defenseman in the draft, still is.

Not that I'm unhappy with Sergachev, but I think Chychrun will be something truly special. So jealous of Arizona's first round in the last draft. Keller was my favorite forward around our spot as well. Things are looking bright for the Yotes.

Wanted him in Winnipeg and we were oh so close but ended up with Logan Stanley. :help:

This and many seemed fixated on the prospects game and his lacklustre showing.

Odd for professional scouts to take one game that seriously. Or I thought so.

I'd add the u18 as well with the prospects game, and at summer games he had rougher time as well but he was already drafted at the time.

I'm afraid is NHL the right place for him next, strenght/skating are there but he's had some rough moments in games, that probably could be worked better in juniors.

I was hoping the Bruins pick him at 14.

Due to an injury on the left side, it looks like he might get some games to start the season, assuming he does well in the remaining preseason games.

The Oilers should have made a trade for him. I think he is the best dman for the draft and will be a 1D. In my opinion him and Keller are both going to be top 3 players after Matthews from the 16' draft. Man did Chayka strike gold this year.
Outside of moving down from 4, I don't really see how Oilers could of realistically got him. They weren't going to be able to move up from 32. And no way your trade one of the prime pieces for him.

impossible

at any rate, imagine if they did draft him and started him in the line-up...people would be crapping on Oilers management for putting another 18 year old into the line-up instead of praising Chychrun

I knew teams were doing a mistake by not drafting him. He was 18 years old for the lord of Christ, you can't even project a player at that age. He has alll the tools of a top 4 dman, even top 2

With the waiving of Dahlbeck and Michalek, looks like he is probably staying with Arizona.
