Last year for Tavares if we don't go deep in the playoffs?

His insanely stable production has led to one of the better careers of this generation. Really sucks he got hurt last year as he was playing great hockey at the time and would have no doubt helped push the Leafs into a deeper run IMO.

Yup. Just a consistent all-star level player for his entire career, steady as a rock. Does nothing at an elite level but does pretty much everything at a level just below that. He's sort of like a Crosby lite, and I mean that in the most complimentary way.

Fans should really give every player more than a handful of games before whining about how they're playing and producing but that goes double, no make that triple for quintessential gud pros like Tavares.

Not particularly surprising, as he is also 12th in games played (among forwards), and has spent his entire career on offence-first teams.

But what does all this have to do with the topic, which is: is he doing as well now, and is he helping us do better in the playoffs?

Well.... he is doing as well now and only played 1 true playoff series with Toronto where he had 5 points in 7 games against the Bruins.

Im not counting the CBJ play-in series because of the long pause between the abrupt season end and bubble playoffs.

Tavares reminds me so much of Sundin.

Nothing spectacular, but solid, dependable, and consistent as hell.

Well, there are people who say he's not doing as well, partly because his numbers have dropped each year he's been here, and partly by watching him play. But that's the topic of another thread.

The topic of this thread is "if he doesn't help us do better in the playoffs this year, is he worth keeping?"

Which I think is a pointless question, as, good or bad, we are stuck with his because of his contact.

Like it has been said many times, every season Tavares has been in Toronto he has been at or slightly above his career average. So, maybe his production has been declining since his career year first season here, but not based on his 10+ year career.

And again: that's the topic of a different thread, not this one!

This is the only active Tavares thread... So this is the thread for that exact topic.
There's a thread on the main boards about "what happened to Tavares", discussing whether or not his play has deteriorated. (For the record, my opinion is 'no, it hasn't'.)

This is about should we keep him if we miss the playoffs. Cluttering it up with irrelevancies just makes it a mess.

But you may as well, as the only real answer to the topic is "nothing". There is really no discussion here.

You seem upset. If the thread is pointless, just ignore it if it's raising your blood pressure. The weekend is almost here, the team is looking better, big game against Boston tomorrow night, be happy is my advice.

Or if you really want to raise your blood pressure, head on over to the main boards where the "relevant" discussion is.:laugh:

remember when the main board thought the Canadian division was weak and now half of the canadian teams are near or at the top of their respective divisions?

fade the main's opinion on most things and you'll be on the + side.

Islanders are an offensive team? LMAO.

And even if one wanted to take that opinion.....this is a thread talking about moving Tavares if the Leafs don't win. Not about his performance.

Certainly not upset. I just find it silly.

The thread is about whether or not we get rid of Tavares if we don't do better in the playoffs this year. Guess what? We can't! End of thread.

Then people keep saying "he's still good". Yes, but that's not the discussion. "But he's still good." Yes, and he's staying. "But he's still good.":laugh:

I've been in that main board discussion, and my opinion is "he's about what he ever was".

And my blood pressure is excellent, thanks for asking.

I cant see a scenario where this front office headed by dubas would trade him, maybe in the final 2 years of his contract but he's still got a few more years for sure.

If the leafs miss the playoffs, or the first round and we see a shakeup with a new front office, who knows.

If you aren't happy with the direction the thread has gone...maybe ignore the thread? Since the question in the OP is such an easy answer. Or continue playing mod. Ya know whatever you prefer I guess.

I didn't say I wasn't happy.

I'm enjoying this thread - It's one of the funniest ones around.

John Tavares is BACK.

Doing JT things. i have been disappointed in him as a captain. preferring Spezza's leadership but I think he has stepped up in a positive way this season.
Jumping into the scrum to stick up for Marner, scoring clutch goals, winning draws, digging pucks out for team mates.

I think he can put his name back into contention for a LW Olympic team spot with this continued great play.
