Last year for Tavares if we don't go deep in the playoffs?

Please provide a full list, of players that as UFA, signed with their hometown team, where their wive's are from, and work, that later accepted to waive their NTC.
You forgot to mention and currently Captains their favourite team.
Tavares is going nowhere, Team wouldn't even ask.

In a cash strapped league his 11m cap hit and 7.95m in actual salary starting next year and for two more years after that might be tempting for some teams. Of course he would have to waive his NMC - which he might or might not.

I'd love to see him shipped out for the right package of help now and in the future. There's a real stigma associated with 50% of the cap going to four players. Will be glad when that's no longer the case.

Thoughts?
the only way Tavares would even consider to waive his NMC would be if he has already won a cup. ...he's here till its over, and we'd suck without him, as we have nobody that can fill his spot even 1/2 as good.

Maybe if we retained salary. He has regressed every year since joining us.
Actually, he had the best season of his career his first season with us, and is on a similar pace right now.
JT has always been around a PPG player, one year a bit over, next a bit under, and he has actually been more consistent since joining us.
...so, maybe you have no idea what you are talking about??

Yeah I don't understand this talk about him regressing at all. He's in year 4 of a 7 year deal and he's playing fantastic, great signing!

Nothing other than pretty much every player in history that has been asked to waive his NTC.
And how many of them waive it before the last year of their contract to make a run on a contender or increase their value prior to hitting UFA. The idea that Tavares would waive is far fetched. Especially this early into the contract.

Who wants him to waive it now? I sure don't.

I assumed we were talking about waiving it in the last year or 2, if necessary.

Well, considering the thread title is "Is this the last year of Tavares if we don't go deep" I'm assuming he means this summer with 3 full years left on the deal.

Oh I assumed we had already acknowledged that the OP's question was silly. My bad.

Frankly, if the team totally flops in the playoffs again, I'd rather dump Matthews and Marner since any kind of flop means those two played with no heart yet again.

This narrative really needs to disappear. Go look at their performance under Babcock as kids and you’ll see that they can produce fine in the playoffs. It’s not their fault Keefe didn’t want to engage in line matchup strategy or break up lines to get people going. Montreal was completely dedicated to stifling them when they were on the ice. 5 man shutdown unit
