Last year for Tavares if we don't go deep in the playoffs?

In a cash strapped league his 11m cap hit and 7.95m in actual salary starting next year and for two more years after that might be tempting for some teams. Of course he would have to waive his NMC - which he might or might not.

I'd love to see him shipped out for the right package of help now and in the future. There's a real stigma associated with 50% of the cap going to four players. Will be glad when that's no longer the case.

Thoughts?

As much as I think JT is over-rated (and he is), I don't see the Leafs moving him- JT is a family guy (I'll give him that), no way does he uproot his family just to agree to play eleshwere, he genuinely likes Toronto and wants to live his life here, he's loyal, I'll say that much about the guy.

I see a guy like Willy being dealt or a Marner being traded, long before JT is moved, JMO of course.

Anyone remember the gruesome injury he had in the playoffs?

Might take more than a couple of games to get feeling right on the ice again.

Lots of really clueless and heartless posters in here.

In all honesty he got off light, by that I mean he didn't suffer any kind of neck or spine trauma, and the concussion he did receive was very and I mean VERY mild in nature. I think where things went south in that situation is how that idiotic trainer tried to lift him up off the ice, you NEVER move a person with a potential neck or TBI, that trainer should have lost his job on the spot.

As for the concussion? Tavares was good as day less than hours later! If you recall, he was out practicing prior to Game 2, if he had a "gruesome" injury, no way would be allowed to be out on the ice. Also, he was up in the pressbox watching Game 2, again, if he had such a severe concussion, he would be laid up in a dark room, he wouldnt have been able to withstand the bright lights for hours on end.

I know what I'm speaking about here, because I suffered a very similiar head injury to JT's years ago- I was on my Dads boat (I was around 13 at the time), I made the mistake of laying on the bed in the cuddy, and he decided to blast the boat at 120km an hour, my head literally bounced up and down off the waves and nearly smacked the roof several times. I was laying face down, and then everything went dark and I had no memory of anything. The next thing I remember was waking up face down by the door, and when I got up I was incrediby dizzy and had a pounding headache, which lasted for 24 hours. After that? I was fine, no symptoms whatsoever.

JT's injury looked much worse than it was, and thankfully he didn't suffer any long term damage.

While you are correct that a trainer shouldn’t be lifting players off the ice, that’s not at all what happened.

Actually it's exactly what happend.

Go to the :26-30 second mark, and you will see the trainer lift him up off the ice, which caused JT to collapse a 2nd time.

Just a quick bump in appreciation for our Captain.

NHL rank over the last 12 seasons now:

Goals:
1. Ovi
2. Stamkos
3. Tavares
4. Kane
5. Marchand

Points:
1. Kane
2. Ovi
3. Crosby
4. Giroux
5. Tavares
Hell even if you just take his Leafs stats he's 6th in goals amongst centers behind:

Draisaitl
Matthews
McDavid
Aho
Stamkos
Tavares

He's also 9th in points behind the same group plus MacKinnon/Barkov/Scheifele.

Not bad for a #2C on this team.

Add in all the non-scoring contributions and he’s been a beast.

Since the signing:

Tavares: 223gms, 38gl/81pt pace, 53.5xgf% (+0.4rel)
Kadri: 198gms, 22gl/57pt pace, 51.5xgf% (-2.3rel)

Dubas biggest mistake...thinking Tavares is a 6.5 million dollar upgrade on Kadri's 4.5 Million.
I don't believe Dubas brought in Tavares to replace Kadri.
After the second suspension Kadri was leaving regardless of Tavares.

Exactly. We can't move him unless he agrees, and I don't see any reason why he would.

I don't see any reason he wouldn't agree of we asked him to pick teams.

I can name several

1- He loves Toronto and playing for the Leafs.
2-He is family oriented (he has a wife and two young sons), he's not about to uproot them just to relocate.

Sure he prefers it here. But I don't see Tavares as an especially stubborn guy, especially if it puts him at odds with the team.

1. His wife is from the area.
2. His wife works in the area.
3. His wife's family is in the area.
4. This is where his wife wants to raise the family.

You do understand how this works right?

He's a professional athlete making millions of dollars. He knows the drill.
