Considering our D or lack of, Dobson had more runway to work with before he found a seat as the next D man in was not going to bring anything to the table. Just found too many young players regressing, playing tentative.
Hopefully we can find a way to be a more exciting team and still win

Just win I don't need the bolded. Many called the past four seasons boring but they were the absolute best of my lifetime.

Someone reconcile this...

If Lou is not good at teaching young players (and Wahlstrom is the name often brought up), then how can anyone explain Dobson?
I suggested being partnered with Chara as a way to reconcile the two (with you obviously meaning to type "Trotz" rather than "Lou").
So which are you saying is the #1 reason for Dobson's development...?

  • He just figured it out on his own
  • His D partner is a better coach than was his actual coach
IDK. I'd say it's a tie between Dobson himself, Trotz, Lambert/other assistants, Chara/other vets, other stuff.

You seem to think Yzerman is the smartest guy in the league, so if Lou hired the coach that Yzerman wanted you should be happy. In fact, maybe Lou outsmarted Yzerman.

Do I think Yzerman is the best GM in the league...? Yes I do.

Do we know for sure that Yzerman was going to hire Lambert? We do not.

Do have a problem with the Lambert hire (in a vacuum)? I do not.

Do I have a problem IF Lou just fired Trotz (as opposed to Trotz walking in a year)? Yes I do.

Confused about the bolded. You were the main one beating the drum here that Tavares should have been gotten rid of. The entire organization knowing Trotz was leaving after this upcoming season would be awful for team morale in my opinion.

I agree with your first three points but I 100% believe if Trotz was leaving then Lou did the right thing.

Pretty wild for a guy that didn’t win a cup as GM…

Somewhat confused and I don't know how to interpret it, but Trotz's name hasn't been mentioned even once in this piece (and there were plenty of opportunities): 7 Facts: Lane Lambert

He’s been under Trotz shadow, probably to give the guy a fair shake that he’s his own person, not the handmedown.

Might be worded confusingly, but my point was the one you made...That if Trotz was going to walk no matter what in a year then, exactly like Tavares, no reason for him to be part of this franchise and Lou did the right thing.

However if Trotz would've stayed and Lou just fired him because of one lackluster season (which was more Lou's fault than Barry's), then I have a big problem with that.

In fact I'd go so far as to say that if Trotz was truly committed to this franchise, he is better at his job than any player or Lou is at his, so I would've traded any player that wasn't on board with him.

Side benefit: HF dodges a Quenneville discussion involving citations to an attorney report and/or a Babcock debate.

I did NOT want Babcock. For the criticism of Torts, some players seemed to love him and thrive. But even when people weren't happy, it wasn't to the level of vitriol I've seen towards Babcock.

I was hoping Torts could come in, but I also agreed when other said it was a similar situation to Trotz and probably not much upside.

I guess I'm okay with this?

Not really sure how to feel.

LGI?

I was thinking that Lou and Trotz had some sort of fundamental differences in philosophy and kept on butting heads (professionally). so Lou probably said to himself "better nip this one in the bud".... Lambert coaches the same system AND toes the line

Didn’t you say that word on the street was that the Islanders wanted to go in a more offensively creative direction? Or is Lambert what that referred to?

Same ex-player source?

No..the source I spoke to only mentioned about trotz, not lambert. The more offensively creative direction thing came from an article on NHL.com or the Kyper and Bourne podcast...I cant' remember.

Oh, it wasn’t clear you were referencing an article, thought it was another tidbit from your inside source.

And several dissertations accentuated with bulletpoints, hyperbole, and inconsistency. Butttt…then we won’t have fellow brethren’s mockery or the usual back-and-forth.

I’m not sure I like that trade off.

That’s how I feel. I didn’t think we were boring. Our playoff series were amazing and other fans I’m have corroborated that. And the winning was lost fun of all.

I think we’ll see a little more fire from Lambert than we saw with Trotz. Don’t know if that’s good or bad just think lambert is a lot more animated

One thing that’s been consistent is the high praise by former players of Lambert. Doesn’t mean it will translate to success as a head coach but at least he’s a guy who players really respect.
