personally don't think this moves the needle for Forsberg or Johnny hockey to look at the Isles..
Who would have? The abusive Babcock, or the sexual assault cover upper? I don't think which coach they play for is high on the list of what they look at for Free Agency. They know coaches come and go way quicker than players.

Seeing how Tage Thompson turned out, I hope this line of thinking is out the door
Tage scored 38 goals this year! He’s only 24! I’ll take that all day

Im cautiously optimistic. I still remember how pumped Caps fans were for Reirden.

I hope Lane can help open up the offense somehow.

Losing a parent can be hard and maybe it affected Barry in a way that took some of the coaching fire out of him. I know he's got a special needs son, maybe as he's turning 60 he feels it's time to slow down and focus on his family more now that he's made his $20M.

When you read about the grind of these pro head coaches, it's not surprising that they can burn out and need a break. Excited about Lambert. Wish nothing but the best for Barry.
Yeah. I think this may be what was going on. Also, a person's demeanor can be affect when they've got a lot of excess stress they're dealing with. I mean, that's clear to me from personal experience (of myself, and others).

When LL says NYI needed a new voice, that makes the reason for the firing that says nothing about Trotz, his ability, his character, or his commitment. It may have been true, but it may also been the diplomatic thing to say - move on while maintaining the reputation of everyone involved.

I think the last year of the contract thing was also a big factor. Perhaps given what was going on with Trotz, LL did not want to do a big money long term extension. And probably neither LL nor Trotz would want Trotz to be a a lame duck coach.

I'm glad the drama is over, honestly.

Glad we didn't get any of the merry-go-round coaches out there. I'm fine with this as he know the Trotz way of playing defence and has probably convinced Lou he is going to add more of an attacking style and play the kids more than Barry. If it works, it's the best of both worlds.

I hope this works out better than the last time Trotz was let go and his assistant took over. Looking at your Riordan.

Is Korn officially out? Lambert and Korn go back with Trotz together. Could maybe keep Korn in the fold
It sounds like he's retiring.

This is what Gross said a few days ago (I found the link):

"Lamoriello dismissed future Hall of Famer Barry Trotz on Monday, explaining the current group of players needed to hear a new voice as their new coach after missing the playoffs for the first time since 2018. Lamoriello added the rest of Trotz’s staff, including Lambert, his top lieutenant, remained under contract.

But director of goaltending Mitch Korn is unlikely to return as it’s believed he had already informed the team prior to Trotz’s firing that he wished to step away and, most likely, retire."

I’m actually surprised but it must like everyone has said mean that Trotz was planning on stepping away or stepping away after this year and isles didn’t want to lose Lambert. Trotz always pumped Lambert as head coach candidate, didn’t think it would be replacing trotz here though.

We went with the Steve Stirling route. Terrific! Lets see what we do with Lane but I am giving him a 1 year window, he was the assistant coach. Partial blame falls on him and lets see how he can turn it around in the 22-23 season.

Depending on what happens this offseason, I have little excitement about this team currently.
