Losing a parent can be hard and maybe it affected Barry in a way that took some of the coaching fire out of him. I know he's got a special needs son, maybe as he's turning 60 he feels it's time to slow down and focus on his family more now that he's made his $20M.

When you read about the grind of these pro head coaches, it's not surprising that they can burn out and need a break. Excited about Lambert. Wish nothing but the best for Barry.

I love Lambert and he absolutely deserves to be a head coach but this was my fear. He’s been with Trotz for so many years and he’s basically more of the same in my mind.

That being said maybe Lou saw something when lane took over or the players conveyed it to him? “New Voice”

Barry could also wanted a sabbatical but wanted to do it if Lane took over.

Kinda feels like there is more to the story and that Trotz isn't going to coach next year.
This is what I’m thinking. Break from the game and he gets his #1 assistant a shot to be a head coach

it's better than them hiring a retread. I think this decision was made a few weeks ago because I don't think you let a coach like Trotz go without having some Idea of who you are going to replace him with.
Agreed give a new guy a shot at coaching in the league.
He knows the lay of the land here lets hope he keeps some of the D-structure and introduces a bit more offence.

DeBoer fired...you wonder if everyone is gonna fire their coaches now hoping to get Trotz and would be funny if he has zero intention to coach anywhere. He'd also probably only go to Philly or Winnipeg

Losing Trotz is pretty damn brutal.

Lane seems like a good fellow and obviously is familiar with Barry's system and the team. I suppose this isn't the worst option...

Lambert coached three games. In one of them where we were trailing he did allow Wahlstrom to play for about 17 mins - put 7 SOG. Another Bellows played for about 18 but it looked to be a covid ravaged roster. Could mean something, could mean nothing.

Can't say it's a great sign when my first reaction was...

"Thank god it wasn't Babcock or Quenneville."

Nothing quite says "a new voice" like promoting a 57 year old coach from within the organization who has spent the last 10+ years working with coach you just fired. Trotz must be ready to retire, and the way that the org could send him off right is by guaranteeing the last year's salary by firing him. Excited for what develops
This was my initial thought, but keep in mind Lamoriello said “new voice”, not “new structure/system”.

For all we know, Lambert will deploy the lineup completely different than Trotz and may not be willing to give underperforming veterans the benefit of the doubt that Trotz did.

After all, this is Lambert’s 1st gig and he probably WON’T have the same patience that Trotz did simply because he’s unproven.

Theres that "NEW" voice we were looking for....
you-know-that-new-sound-youre-looking-for-well-listen-to-this.gif

This makes me think it was a mutual thing, there is no way Lambert who is loyal to Barry is going to take Barry's place so quickly if it was a true performance based firing, would love to know what really went on, maybe this was all Barry's idea

The coach won't matter if Lou doesn't add 2-3 legit NHL defenseman (and hopefully one is a PMD who can either pass or skate the puck out of the D zone).

Enough counting on players like Chara, Greene, Salo, Aho, or any other fringe NHLer or AHLer.

Lane has deserved a head coaching job for a very long time. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise for us. I liked the way we played when Trotz was gone and he was in charge.

Maybe the boys like him. I like the hire. The only thing that makes my head scratch is the "new voice" part. You want to hire Lambert, then fine, he's a good hire. But he's not necessarily a "new voice".

I’m fine with this, but I think both he and Lou are gone if we have another shitty season.
The hire makes you think ownership may not have given Lou a green light to go hire a coach for 5 yrs at top dollar.

I’m all for Lane getting an opportunity. I don’t see a huge change in message/voice coming which is a contradiction to what we were told. Raises more questions for me on what exactly happened with Trotz.

Staple retweeted this, could have some legs.

I guess if Trotz takes another HC job, especially if it is not Winnipeg that tells us most of that tweet is true but that probably Barry no longer wanted to work under Lou or Ledecky for some reason
