Maybe I’m reading too much into this quote, but it makes it sound like Trotz wasn’t all that interested in teaching which ties into his ‘struggles’ with young players.

He’s just the consummate pro,” said Minnesota Wild GM Paul Fenton, who was the Admirals’ GM. “Loves to teach, loves to challenge guys to get better, and I think that’s why he’s had so much success and he’s been such a tremendous accessory with Barry, to be able to teach guys the right way that he wants them to play.”

Staple retweeted this, could have some legs.

Could the rumors about him wanting to go to the front office have some legs then? Staple really hasn't had a pulse on the team since Lou took over, but I know Dreger said Trotz was looking to be in a management role.

Also could be Trotz just needs a break. He seemed depleted after this season.

2 misgivings about Lambert and an observation about Lou:

1) How is Lambert a new voice to the players unless he is going to change the gameplan. Given the current roster and the slow skaters/lack of finisher we already have up front I don’t see us becoming a higher scoring team.

2) I am leery of career assistant coaches who interview for head coaching jobs in other organizations and are always a bridesmaid and never a bride. Maybe Lambert doesn’t interview well and Lou got to know him better over the last 4 years. I hope this is the case.

3) Does everyone remember Lou’s press conference 30 minutes after the TDL passed? He said that for the remaining 25 games everyone was being evaluated. Well Barry Trotz was the one to take the fall for a 500 finish.

I don't share the assumption that Lambert is going to be a continuation of the Trotz system. Just because he worked for Trotz doesn't mean he has the same philosophy or will do things the same way. He could absolutely open things up offensively somewhat. He may love and respect Trotz but he also could think he's a bit too stubborn and needs to play kids more. As far as system/style of play, I don't view him differently than I would a coach coming from outside.

I wonder if this means the assistants and goalie coach (Greco) stay?

Remember Weight said something is coming that Lou doesn't like?

Next Lou is let go and the Isles hire Trotz as GM.

1.) Lambert has the keys to the car now. It’s entirely possible that he did not agree with a multitude of decisions made by Trotz this season and his actions will speak louder than words.

Examples: Maybe he pairs Dobson with Pelech next camp, deploys Wahlstrom in more offensive situations, ride Sorokin (or the hot goalie) longer than just switching every other game.

2.) This is always a fear but Lambert is highly respected by all accounts league wide.

Someone reconcile this...

If Lou is not good at teaching young players (and Wahlstrom is the name often brought up), then how can anyone explain Dobson?

On the same day Deboer fired. In house candidate.hire, did not expect this from Lou with this team. Heard Lambert has been ready for years. Going to give him a chance to see what he can do with this team.

My only explanation is that Dobson is just built different. The kid was placed in a ton of high pressure situations as a kid, and has thrived off it.

As much as I love Wahlstrom, he's still pretty immature. Everyone has different growth patterns. It seems that Wally is receptive to criticism, but then there's another side of him that wants to do what he wants.

"I had the opportunity to work with Lane over the past four years, which includes spending time with him on a one-on-one basis when he served as the interim Head Coach this past season," Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello said in a statement. "In my opinion, he is the right person to coach this team."

Anyone offhand knows Lane's record when Barry was out. Seemed to make a positive impression on Lou. Also be curious to see his player usage for clues on how he will deploy the Isles next season.

If the entire staff returns, then this is more about Barry moving on and his heir apparent (and staff) are right there. The rest is really just PR management.

Personally I don't see how Lou clears enough cap to shop for all the goodies everyone wants. And based on the small sample size I've seen of Salo I see him as a viable D-man for this coming season , certainly capable of playing bottom pairing minutes with Mayfield. Any Hockey trade will cost us more considering our cap position. And we aren't wealthy in the asset department and those players frequently mentioned as bait have low valuation at this time.

2-1 it was a three game stretch in which they beat EDM, NJD, and got shutout by WSH.

Scratch that, I found the answer. Lane Lambert is 1-0 as Interim Coach, game was against Edmonton. 3-2 win.

Here is the clue I was curious of.

Barzal 22:16 TOI
Dobson 24:54 TOI

I think we had a bunch of C19 issues during that spell, so not sure I'd read much into the TOI.

How about if we add OEL, Garland/Hoglander and Leddy this offseason (sending some salary to VAN in the deal and maybe they retain a bit)? The asset give wouldn't be bad (could keep the 1st pick and Raty), but the cap could be tricky. ;)

When Nelson came back the next game Barzal only played about 11 minutes at ES, 4 PP minutes.

Dobson did lead the D in ice time that game though.
