It better not be a Victor Mete situation...Can't wait til he pots one
Dipsy Dolittle.
His possession isn't amounting to much and he's taking himself out of position far too often.
Definitely over exposed and certainly over rated at this point in his career.
We cant afford a top 4 dman playing at a -40 pace.
I'm not surprised I suggested it might be an issue coming in to this season.
People fell in love with his 2 points last season while completely ignoring his -2 in two games.

He creates a lot of space, but the rest of the team isn't there yet. What I haven't liked are his really bad pinches, especially during a tied game or a 1 goal game. He's been the direct cause of points in the standings. The other thing is he's looked tired lately. It's all part of the learning process.
I’ll take poor Makar.Would you rather have a rich man's Victor Mete, or a poor man's Cale Makar. Those are the important questions I ask myself.
It seems that Lane is second on the team in points share, meaning he's contributed second most to our points. Not sure the methodology that is used, but it's similar to WAR. Our isolated negative observations disguise his overall very positive contributions to points.

You're not entirely wrong, and teams have learned to adapt to him better where after he gets passed the forechecker, the play never really ends up going anywhere. Yes, the lack of talent on the team makes it a lot worse to create chances, but it's not as effective as it was at the start of the season.Dipsy Dolittle.

As others have mentioned, the cute plays in the defensive zone and awful pinches during key moments of the game are getting too frequent as well.
That being said, he's been one of the few bright spots on the team. The skating criticism seems to be complete nonsense. While he isn't perfect defensively, he's not getting caved in every shift. He seems incredibly overworked which makes sense but 40 points as a rookie dman is a very impressive debut. He's way too skilled, smart, and dynamic to be covered by the other team.
Giving up the blue line would be a huge advantage for us. We need to exploit that.I think you will see less opposing teams challenge him at the opposing blueline.... and elect to stay back a bit and just try to contain him rather than check him.
It's happening already.

I'd argue the possession quality isn't necessarily quality possession when the end result isn't ending up in a scoring chances. It seems that Lane is second on the team in points share, meaning he's contributed second most to our points. That's why I jokingly called him Dipsy Doolittle.
I somehow prefer REAL GF and REAL GA when assessing play.
I don't think he sees our best player with our D rotation the way it is so I don't expect xGF to mean much.
That OT win was a step in the right direction. The most important player for him to find chemistry with ultimately has to be Suzuki.
The question is would Hutson's +/- be any better or would Suzuki's be worse?
Or are you one of those who thinks it doesn't matter.
This load of information hurt my brain a little, but it all checks out. Lane is good, all is goodOnly 11 dmen have more assists than "Doopsie Dolittle":
Maybe it's your own 'assessing' that needs assessing. For one, it's rather incomplete, despite the bluster.
He's -8, in real +/-... omg.. pacing for -40 (exagerated)... omg
But if we look a little closer, we see this:
And this:
So, Hutson and all his big bad world ending defensive defficiencies, who would definitely bring Suzuki's +/- down , is actually -2 in real, regular, normal, non-empty net 5vs5. As a rookie. With 20 games of experience. Real.
Maybe what's overrated is your opinion of your own opinion. Maybe what's underrated is your love for being overcritical.
Hutson's doing fine for a rookie.
xGF% is just +/- with more context, and Hutson is really close to Guhle and Suzuki in xGF%, but yeah let's discount that since it doesn't support your cute narrative:
Yeah looks exactly like what we've seen on the ice.Only 11 dmen have more assists than "Doopsie Dolittle":

Man stop hating on one of our best players who is asked to anchor a blueline for 22+ minutes a night on a mediocre team at best in his rookie year. If Matthews and Marner for example got to play with him they'd be feasting on that PP1. To boot he's got a great heart and always has a positive body language.Yeah looks exactly like what we've seen on the ice.
I've always wanted to know who decides what makes a GF expected
Because honestly I wasn't expecting much of anything with a lot of his possession.
LOL Crazy how he starts converting when he's finally getting reps with our best forwards.
Dipsy Dolittle is becoming Dipsy Doing-a-little more.
Two positive games in a row.
