People forget that CHL players have the same "loophole" and become UFAs just like NCAA players. The only difference is that players age out of CHL and so need to find a place to play while waiting to be UFA which is a bit of a roadblock whereas NCAA can just continue playing with the team they've always played for.

Yes this is sometimes a risk. I just don't see it as a risk in this case.

But yes, I can see the perspective of those that don't want to deal with even the possibility of that risk.
