Seriously NHL needs to close this stupid loophole. You start your career with the team that drafted you, period.
The issue isn't that prospects aren't obligated to sign their ELC (it's not a NCAA thing). The issue is that American NCAA players are drama queens about it and can't ask the team that drafted them politely to move them because they aren't interested to play for them.

Make it happen, Kent.

Where is the goddamn tweet we’ve been all waiting for. I wouldve Thought the contract would be ready and just awaiting Lane’s signature upon elimination.

If Lane signs and plays with the Habs this season, does he flunk out of college? Does he get a failing grade on all his courses?

Yes. All NCAA players that leave early automatically fail and can never go back to college again. Caufield will forever be a college failure. :sarcasm:

In reality, there's a lot of leeway here for high profile athletes, he can defer coursework and even exams in some case. He's also going to be with Montreal for, like, a week at most.

I think more importantly is that the degree is virtually insignificant compared to making millions. I mean college sports are just feeder leagues for professional leagues. It just so happens the league is in a scholastic environment, so everyone has to pretend the degree is important, when in reality they are there for one reason.

Friedman mentioned that people are sensitive to the timing here, and that they may want to give him a bit of space right after losing like that.

FWIW I agree. I expected the announcement this morning.

Caufield officially signed the next night after his last game, Farrell signed 2 days after, Struble signed 4 days after. Out of respect for their college teammates, these guys wouldn't sign and announce a contract after losing a big game.

Odds are his signing will be announced later today or tomorrow and he'll join the team for the game in Detroit.

It’s not about the degree alone but how a player will carry himself after he leaves his alma mater. For instance, many have noted how well-spoken and knowledgeable Jordan Harris is. Those are valued traits for a lifetime and those will be useful to him when he embarks on a post hockey endeavor or career.

Plus, a lot of hockey players are enrolled in challenging programs, they’re not merely going through the motions.

How many seasons left in College Hockey for Hutson ? One or two ?... If it is two, I would not be worried. He might still want to play with his two brothers and gain some weight and strength.

He has played 2 seasons. so 2 left. You might be right about wanting to play with his brothers but in terms of development. He has nothing left to prove in the NCAA. Its time for the next level.....

With John Mayer's voice: waiting, waitiiiing , waiting on Lane to sign .... waiting, waitiiiing waiting on Lane to sign

And no Canadian would ever, ever do such a thing, right Lindros?

I understand that it's pretty neat to play hockey for a living, but I can very much understand wanting to choose a city to work in, and have NMCs to avoid sudden unplanned moves.
