Stop it... 3rd pair defensman? No... he is a top4 defensman.

He has a long way to reach that goal.

You name me another dman his size who can barely skate backwards playing in the top 4 of an NHL team......

I would love for you to be right but as of right now the evidence says 3rd pairing PP specialist and that is with further significant improvement.

After 8 games this year, Hutson has 10 pts, 7 goals and 3 assists. Last year after 8 games, he also had 10 pts, but it was 3 goals and 7 assists. So this year, he decided to produce similarly, only switch it between goals and assists.

If he goes back to the NCAA next year, he will have to try blindfolded.

On a serious note, his shot seems to have improved immensely.

I wonder if it's cause BU's offense is not as good this year (aka only Celebrini) so he's forced to shoot more or he just wants to add another tool to his arsenal (improving his shot).

I know people like to dismiss the +/-stat, but being one of the only minus player on the team (-5; worst on the team), when you are supposedly the star player, is not a good look. You may be able to score pretty goals, but if you can't stop the other team from scoring when you are on the ice, then your NHL career will be short or non-existent. Lots of work ahead for Hutson. It will be interesting to see how this player will do when he leaves college. Fans will love him to death.
It is an irrelevant stat. That has been proven many times.

Very true but it is funny how many of his apologists on this board were quoting his +/- last season as evidence for his defensive prowess and now suddenly it is a meaningless stat.....
It was always a meaningless stat. Always will be.

The fact that he had a good plus minus last year and a bad one now helps to demonstrate that point.

Please be true

You mean like last season when he was intentionally listed at a false height at BU....and it wasn't the college that did this as Lane sheepishly claimed, it was from him and/or his agent as both he and his brother were the only BU players to announce their "new" heights on that same day lol. He was just measured in July at just over 5'9" and it is unlikely that a kid who is turning 20 in 3 months just added another inch only 4 months since his last measurement.

This is a silly waste of time to even discuss nonsense like this based on people's hyper biased visual measurements.

I swear if penis size was important to success as a hockey player people on this site would be going over every picture of his groin region trying to convince us of his enormous hammer.....or drawing conclusions from the length of his nose or size of his ears lol.

Anyways.....I digress.

I really am curious to see what Mr. Hutson turns out to be. In my mind I just cannot see a full time NHL defenseman, but the enthusiasm that most of you have for him keeps me second guessing my evaluation. Intriguing prospect for sure.

Why wouldn't he be a full time Dmen like Hughes? his NCAA stats blows away Hughes.

His hockey IQ, compete and skills are too high not to work out imo. He also comes at a time when the number of highly skilled smaller defensemen is rising.

According to some posters:

- He can't skate backwards
- He can't skate forward
- He's slow
- He's smol
- He can't defend
- He can't offend
HF eh............lol
This, all from clips and highlights.........and not watching him actually play!

Looking like a real steal of a pick for the Habs!
Let the kid, to continue to.....................wait for it.................Develop!!

He’s blowing away records of the best blueliners in the league. I have a hard time not seeing him at least as a 2nd pairing PP specialist.

But honestly we might have a legit star on our hands. I’m not expecting Makar but he could be a 60+ point blueliner.

The best predictor of future success is past performance. It doesn’t always translate but it usually does. Caufield had the same questions and he turned out pretty well.

He’s not a sure fire superstar but there’s definitely potential for him to be. I don’t care who says otherwise. If you’re putting up these kinds of numbers the potential is there.

Based on what I know now and what I’ve seen, I see him being on the first pair. I could be wrong but I think he’s going to be a great blueliner for us.

With all due respect you don’t know more about his height than anyone else here.

1st pair, 2nd pair, or, even, 3rd pair, I don't care. What Hutson will bring to the PP hasn't been seen since Markov. That, alone, can turn MON into a winning team.

I haven't even mentioned Hutson at 3 VS 3 during OT. He could burn a D here and there regularly and create two on ones or breakaways. Caufield would get plenty of opportunities to score.

Hutson would have to beat Guhle as the Habs #1 LD to do that and I don't see it happening. Hutson will never have Guhle's physicality/IQ/skating combo and will struggle handling heavy forecheck from the league top players.

He should be a great offensive player for the Habs thought, you don't need 1st pair minutes as a D to be that.

Yeah, he planned it that way in the summer and now he's just going through the paces executing the plan. It's just that efforless for him. ;)
