Its not about his height or weight. Its even actually irrelevant. He will sometimes get exploited in the NHL and we will happily live with it.

As long as he does what he can do with the puck and thats it. Superstar potential.

I like Hutson's potential just as much as others. However, his strength to deal with the big forwards in the NHL should not be ignored. Of course he will get stronger from now till when he is 21-23 age range but we will need to ensure he is sheltered the right way in our own zone. Especially if we are contenders chasing a cup in the playoffs. It's very possible he is on the 3rd pairing at 5/5 but on both PP units.

If he is still growing (it appears so anyways), he could top out at 5'-10/11 and 180-190 lbs. That's not bad at all for what he provides with his vision/skating.

Needs to improve his shot from the point.

yup. He’s the only prospect in the system that can create something out of nothing. That’s what gamebreakers do.

I don't think anyone is questioning his offensively abilities or at least they shouldn't be. Unfortunately, there's much more to the game than creating something out of nothing. I think he'll become a successful Dman, just not a great all around player, which is ok. He's specialized and that is welcoming for our club.

Makar was 5'10 176 when drafted
Probably why Philly didnt take him, probably why they overlooked Caufield too….

With the Michkov selection, it would seem that this organization has finally come to their senses!!

I’m ready to live with his defensive warts if he’s offensively ELECTRIC!!

Absolutely. Our team needs that and with the Reinman to his right, he'll be insulated for his defensive deficiencies at even strength. He'll get no PK time but all the PP time, which is perfect for him and us.

You can easily insulate him and like you said, throw him on the PP, let him fly baby!!

FWIW, Hutson's play in his own end was a pleasant surprise for me last season, especially at the senior world championship. He makes very quick reads and he was more often than not able to avoid getting in trouble when the forecheck/pressure got on him. You still don't want him in a situation where he has to defend all the time against heavy cycle obviously, but he's good at moving the puck before that happens.

All true, but I'd just like to also mention that not every single forward in the NHL is 6"3 220 lbs lol

But the ones that are, may give Lane a bit of trouble sure, but you take that with all the good, I mean we watched Victor Mete for 3 years ffs lol

Hutson is never going to be a plus player on the heavy cycle, but he is great at getting the puck and exiting the zone, and his team typically has possession when he's out there.

You dont need to be 6'3 to be stronger than Lane Hutson. Im assuming as of today, 99% of the NHL is stronger than Lane and probably 75% overwhelmingly so.

He is not your typical NHL dman. I think he will be just fine. His defensive game is to play offensive. There aren't many others like that but if you are good enough, it works. The other team can't score if they don't have the puck, and he always has the puck. Can they get it off him? Maybe, but also maybe not.

Brian Rafalski and Dan Boyle are the blueprint IMO, they both ended up playing big first pairing minutes in all situations with a 5ft10, 185-ish pounds frame ( granted, with elite pairing partners ) . Hutson may not get to quite that level but it's certainly a goal to try and achieve.

OH well OK then, it's hopeless for Lane then i guess, he'll be the weakest person in the NHL every single year, 754 out of 754 players he'll be the puniest weakest player (or out of 755 because of your magical 99% number)
We shouldn't even bother trying help him make the NHL, I mean what's the point right? I mean what are we doing here

(Lol @ that "overwhelmingly 75%" one too)

Esti que ce forum est abrutissant.

Ill make it simple for you.

1. Can you think of one player that is smaller than Lane Hutson, right now?
2. 99% if 754 is 746.
3. It doesnt matter if he is smaller, we shouldnt care about that part of his game.
4. Please think before you press reply man, its not all about being angry all the time.

I wouldn't be so sure. Kids coming from the CHL, NAHL, USHL or Europe don't train like they do in the NCAA. My stepson plays Div 1 and is 5'9.75 and 180 during the off season, 172-175ish during the season. They powerlift like crazy. His deadlift went up to 445 after his freshman year and he says Canadian and American Junior leagues don't even come close to that level of strength training. Yes Hutson will be shorter and 'smaller' than most of the NHL, but weaker than 99%? I'm not so sure..

It doesn't matter.

His strength and/or size will never get to a point that it's not weakness but who cares because his game is based entirely outside of those attributes.

Sometimes his size will lead to defensive "collapse" but he will more than make up for it with his offense.

Between forwards, defensemen and goalies, who do you think averages the smallest height and weight?
