Congrats to our man! Now in front of Chelios, Ronald Corey would like it

I really don't mind him having 0 goals , I mean mathematically with his rate of succesful slot passes in high danger area's, don't we prefer him creating a high danger shot than a point shot? Just food for thought , I feel like he's not getting his shot off by choice more than anything.

Obviously individually you want him to get that aspect of his game going to open up other things . But I don't think him not scoring in his rookie year yet is a big deal

26 mins last night almost. The kid is special. Even those of us who were really high on him, I don't think would have predicted 25 mins per game 30 games into his career.

He isn't perfect but other than Guhle, he is the one defenseman on the Habs that I feel comfortable with night in and night out, DEFENSIVELY. And that is insane.
I'm not surprised by the offense, well other than I didn't expect it to come so early and so consistently.

But I am surprised by how much better he is defensively than what I expected.

I don't watch NCAA hockey so was basically basing myself on observations from folks who watched him at that level, and I didn't think he would be so smart defensively.

Yes, he loses physical confrontations from time to time, but the way he uses his body and mind to defend is already well advanced at his age.

Elite, one of a kind talent. He does things with the puck that I've never seen defensemen do before.

And he is 20 years old.

He will continue to build strength and his body will mature through NHL training and practice. I've not even sure how to predict what the ceiling is for him.
Plus, his endocronologist says he will continue to grow until he is 35!

At 6'8" and 260 lbs as a 30-yr-old, Hutson will kill the league in his 3rd NHL contract!

I followed him for a long long time. Only have followed PK and him this much. I payed to be able to watch all his NCAA games and watched Boston College instead of the Habs the past couple of years. I always said here and to my friends, he is good defensively but I still had my doubts about board battles and things like this against much bigger guys at the NHL level, that is the part that has surprised me, how he constantly pins much bigger guys and wins the puck off them, sometimes against 2. As Robidas said before camp, Hutson defensively is a dog chasing a bone. Such a good description, he never gives up. If Barron had half the drive and brain of Hutson he would be a superstar.

On a more serious note, Hutson's visioning passing ability buys him time because he isn't afraid to send the puck to a line mate (and reach his target) cross current, sending the opponent scrambling to readjust to the flow the play.

When an opponent can do that at will, you tend not to over-commit. I like that Hutson mixes the Hutson shuffle with simple and effective passes or dump-ins to keep the opponent guessing.

If he regularly tried the same dipsy doodles à la Subban, he'd already be out on LTIR because his play would be too predictable and opponents could key in on him.

I coach basketball and I tell my kids all the time, and it applies to most team sports where there are physical confrontation.

The “low man” wins.

That's why he's able to win a lot of board battles, strong low-center of gravity.
