I don't know if I remember a player that developed a good shot this late in the game. Hutson has lots going for him, but a shot probably isn't in the cards.

I think I read something somewhere about his choice of a smaller stick for stickhandling purposes was nerfing his shot potential but I dunno how accurate that is in reality.

Same physics as with a chuck-it for dogs. The longer the stick, the more force can be applied to catapult the ball (or puck). I might be mistaken, but it does seem this way.

His shot isn't great, but lets not forget hes hit the post a few times this season as well. He can beat goalies.
imo he doesn't need a cannon shot necessarily, he needs an above-average wrister.

he should be able to quickly skate into very good shooting position, picking good screens for himself, etc, and score 10+ goals like that every year.

in college he was able to get is shot through traffic at a high rate of success. Power wasn’t so important as was getting shots through in chaotic situations. He uses mostly his deception and vision to do that, I think he’s still figuring out how to find those lanes when the players are more skilled.

Those were also college goaltenders and are a far cry from NHL goaltenders. It is also much easier to find those lanes against college skaters. He will need to make significant improvements to his shot power as it is extremely weak if he hopes to pose a serious threat from distance in the NHL.

I agree that he is very skilled at sneaking his shot through traffic and he is still figuring it out during games. Hopefully a bump in shot power and speed/backskating over the summer propel him to stardom.

Quinn Hughes doesn’t have a rocket either but he’s learned how to use his wrister and snap shot effectively. I expect LH to do the same.

Quinn Hughes has a very good shot.

You have to go to Subban/Chelios to find a better rookie season for a blueliner.

Parlant de ça! Was just about to post this:

He has 6 pts in his last 5 games (and +1!), he's pacing 54 points. 7 more points to pass Markov, 22 to pass PK and 29 to pass Kurvers at #2.

Best player of the 2022 draft.
It was really obvious even in his d+1 but many were saying slaf couldn't possibly not be a star. Hutson is just a difference maker. Slafs upside is still a good player but it's not Lane Hutson. Glad every other team passed on him and we didn't lose him for a Mesar pick.
