This shows the maturity of their captain
lol
Brady is even getting ripped by his own fan base for being an idiot

Seeing as we are the Montreal Canadiens and we can't have nice things, I'm just waiting for some idiot to take a run at our Lane and break him Patrick Laine style.

It's funny because they used a similar strategy in 2024 as the Rangers did in 2017.

Habs were high on Hage and so they moved up to try and have a chance to get him, which they did.

In 2017, the Rangers were sky high on Pettersson. They traded Stepan to get the 7th pick, hoping for a chance to draft him, but came away with Andersson as we all know. I do wonder which scout was that high on Pettersson.
Reminds me of their 2020 draft.

1. Draft high (Laffy / Demidov).

2. Trade up from 22 to 19 to draft Schneider. They were locked in on him and tried to trade up several times to make it happen. Finally got the deal done.

Maybe he learned to get it done early for Hage.

But how he does his D is VERY different. Stick, skating forward with the attacker to cut the available space, unrelenting pursuits. It’s very unconventional and was susceptible to questions.
It’s no longer unconventional. NHL D coaches are coaching exactly that.

A lot of emphasis on shutting plays down early - forwards are so fast and skilled now, so an ounce of prevention ...

Defend by attacking - Toes first / surfing, creating lateral gap, playing on top to shut things down early.

The questions came mostly from old school thinking.

I guess I just showed my age

But yeah, it’s a different approach for sure.

I’ll repeat this - I think he’s great on the second unit. It gives us awesome balance.
I agree with this. What is wrong with him giving us a second credible powerplay? People are always screaming their lungs out about a lack of depth scoring and now that we are getting some they want to yank it all away lol.

Brady tried to run him and looked like an idiot.

If they play pp2 first, and more overall minutes than pp1 I don’t mind Hutson there.

I think about 3 more games of pp1 not performing, and Hutson will be used there.

Pp2 doesn't have much talent and Hutson is the main reason why they are performing well, so imagine what Hutson could do with the talent that pp1 has.
I think MSL will stick with letting PP1 figure things out on their own and keep Hutson on PP2. PP2 is clicking right now, so there’s no need to mess with what’s working. Plus, PP1 has enough talent that they should be able to get it together. Sometimes it’s just about giving them the time to sort things out. Just my $0.02.

We all like Ev ans. He is a hard working bottom-six center. But at some point, Habs have to make space for Kapanen, Beck… and Hage in a not too far future.

He is indeed a very different type of player - forward or D-man.
Speak for yourself. I’ve never been a fan of Evans.

Close to 50? And here I taught 65+ was a realistic possibility for him.
He will get 50 in his sleep.

I know it’s lofty praise, but I don’t think Subban created as much every shift as Lane has so far.
I wish Lane had PK's shot, though.

That being said, he's just incredible. He creates a lot of scoring chances and he has so much hustle. I can't wait to see him and Demidov on the ice at the same time. Can you remember the last time Montreal had players like this?
